dead pixels on mid

im a new member to this site im from the uk
i also had the pixels mising from mid and after reading the post about this problem and what to do i contacted th uk customer services who then told me to contact my local bmw dealer to get them to apply for a goodwill warrenty replacement as my x5 is now 10 months outside the manufacturers warrenty
i have had the mid replaced for this just having to pay the labour charge
i would never have believed this to happen when the car has no warrenty
it just goes to show what bmw will do to keep there customers happy
in the uk the mid would cost over £500 without fitting

i think this is a great site with a lot of information

thanks

I am going to have mine replaced Monday. I contacted BMW USA via their website. I sent in a question about having an issue with the cluster and BMW emailed that day and called the next. I am the second owner and my X5 is 5 years old.

I will have to pay for labor and I will tell you guys about my experience next week!

i wish i had dead pixels...i want a new gauge cluster

do they need to program it? or is all the info stored in the vehicle? because you can install it yourself very easily...

I had to reset all the OBC info, but what a difference being able to read the display without filling-in-the-blank. Service told me the deal saved me $1000. Of course I noticed their hourly labor rate jumped up to $115/hr from $97.50.  !ouch:

Will BMWNA cover canadian customers? Last thread i read about MIDs, they didnt cover canadian customers.

Would the next person who calls bmwna briefly ask them about it please?
thanks

The person at BMWNA I talked to was Robert Murphy - They hedge their ability to help you by saying their help is strictly on a case-by-case basis - Which I believe is governed by your history with BMW - I have been a BMW owner for less than 2 years, but have supported (so to speak) my dealers well and have a history with my 2001 X5 of well maintaining (& upgrading) it - I imagine having bought a new X5 last March with extended service & maintenance warrantees also helped their decision to pay 100% of the parts cost for me - just my quess as to why they picked up 100% instead of 50%

BMWNA will absolutely not cover Canadian customers. In the world of BMW marketing organizations, Canada isn't part of North America. You would need to speak to BMW of Canada, which is an entirely different organization. Recommend you talk to your local dealer, and see what they will do.

Just got mine replaced friday morning. Thank you all for this wonderful forum. This place is the best!

The wife just had the X in for a few minor things on Friday. The SA saw that we had a few dead pixels and said that they would replace it. When she went to pick it up, they told her that they could not do it because the guage rings had been put on. Give me a break. So a little advice from you folks that had guage rings and had them replace the cluster would be appreciated.
