UPDATED: Ugh! Need help with electrical problem!!

Okay, got the DICE-HD installed in the car over the weekend. Tom G. did a great job!!

Anyhow, called up Tom G. yesterday because I noticed that sometimes the DICE-HD unit would not give me audio via the HD Radio mode, but the iPod audio and AUX audio was fine.

He recommended that I pull the fuses for the radio and CD Changer. The Radio fuse is 7 in the glovebox and CD Changer is the right rear cargo area above the subwoofer and it is labeled #72. He said it would cut power to the DICE-HD unit and allow it to "reboot".

Well, when I put the fuses back in, specifically fuse #72, I saw a small spark and guess what....no MID display, no radio, no steering column memory, but the steering column motor works. No turn signal indicator inside, but the actual turn signals on the outside works. No more seat memory but the power seats work, no activation of PDC when put the car in Reverse, but I can manually turn on PDC....the right mirror doesn't tilt down when I put it in Reverse and the auto-dimming works, but it doesn't shut off when I put it in Reverse. No more heated seats. Also the self-leveling warning light is on (hmmm, never saw that before). Now, my in-dash CD, I can eject the CD (I believe a separate fuse on the actual radio module itself).

I got another replacement fuse at the correct rating (30) for #72 and no luck. Fuse 7 looks fine but I will try another replacement fuse.

I scoured the Online WDS and can't seem to place common fuse. The steering column memory, heated seats, seat memory seem to be tied together. The radio/MID/CD player are tied together.

Any help from the X5 World experts is welcome. Otherwise, I will let my mechanic sort it out....

I would start by removing the DICE-HD and see if it is still blowing fuses. Something is drawing way too much current.

I may be wrong, but aren't you suppose to disconnect the battery before pulling fuses? I hope Tom told you this advice based on experience, and not based on guessing what would work. Please let us know what happens. GL

I am not sure. Anyhow, what if a fuse blows....then there is no more current flowing. What do you do, replace it with another fuse. I guess with the newer BMWs with its electrical complexity, I probably should have just disconnected the battery or disconnected the DICE-HD unit itself.

The DICE-HD was NOT blowing fuses. I was just trying to "reset" or "reboot" the DICE-HD unit by cutting power to it and restoring it. Unfortuately, something happened when I removed and replaced Fuse#72 (30A).

disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and see if that resets the brain.

Forgot to add, most of the times any input on the dice will not work is partially because HD-Dice input will auto change to say Aux from IPOD even though the OBDC says the opposite. HD-Dice has issues initializing sometimes.

Great idea. I know Tom G. did mention that....Darn, I forgot to try that. Thank you, my fellow A/V guru!!

So basically, I should have just left it alone or disconnect the DICE-HD to re-initialize it.

yeah I usually disconnect HD-Dice.
