PROBLEM? Please help this is time sensative!
Hey guys,
I have been reading on the boards here and have maybe a problem with my 2000 BMW X5 I just bought. When I bought it at the dealership that day the battery was dead. They said they left a light on is why it wouldnt start. This morning when i try and start it nothing! I then move the gear to drive back to park, wiggled it around and then it started. Later that day my blinkers kept flashing and wouldnt turn off. They would turn off for a bit and then come back on. I tried starting the vehicle and it was dead. I jumped it and drove it down to shucks to test the battery, it read" System load check noise?" he had no idea what that really meant but said something is draining the battery. So 3 hours later my car still just sitting it started fine. 5 hours after that it started just fine again. I called the dealership and I can take it to a place called strictly bmw where i live for a diagnose, but this is not an appointment if I cant get in I have to decide by THIS friday 1/26/07 if im gonna keep it or give it back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Clint |
Take it back to the dealer and have them test and fix it. Early X5's had a few different modules that would stay awake and drain the battery.
Well documented so they should be able to fix it without to much problem. If you like the vehicle have them fix it, its not that big of a deal, but make sure they agree to pay to fix it until your sure the fault is rectified. |

You're rolling the dice by not knowing what other issues could potentially exist. 2000 was the first year model and was beset with a myriad of electronic gremlins. Having problems with the car from day 1 is a sign to walk away and look for a later model with less known issues. |
I personally wouldn't take the chance. And if you received a killer deal on the car, now you know why. GL!

I talked to the dealer and he read me off the $1000 bill that BMW of seattle had fixed. One had something to do with the gearshifter. That was my morning problem when i had to wiggle it around and then it started. That was supposed to be fixed but didnt i guess, so that he said he would have fixed again of course for free.
No It was at a private luxury dealership not BMW itself. So hes basically saying anything else id have to take care of myself because he"already" took it to bmw of seattle and this would ne a "new" problem. I just hope Strictly BMW can get it in to take a look at it. Anymore suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks Clint |

It sounds like the place where you bought it is trying to wash its hands of you already by saying any additional repairs are on your dime. As others have said, it is the first model year which had many gremlins. It is 7yrs old, you don't know the service history or the background of the car and you don't have a warranty and there are already undiagnosed problems. Maybe I am overreacting but I would be very nervous. You could ask your local dealership to run the VIN # to see if routine maintenance was performed an if there were any recurring problems. But seeing as tomorrow is the last day that you can return it you don't have much time. I would give it back and spend time looking for a newer model. Good luck |
