I don't understand, a brand new 2007 X5 MSRP is about $55K. Add a few options, get the price down and you're back to $55K. Did you consider a 2007 and ask what they'd give you for trade-in for your car if you bought new?

$55,000 for a lightly equiped 3.0...
$55,000 for a fully loaded 4.8 faster than the e70 4.8... i don't know...:dunno: too hard to decide... |
easy for me! :D And 55,000, which is what mine costs, actually gets you a lot. Prem, cold, tech, rear climate, plus a stand alone,(rear heated seats for me).

there is quite a bit of confidence gained in buying a CPO vehicle. Not that a CPO vehicle will be better than a privately owned, two-owner non-CPO vehicle. But you are gaining a long time warranty out to 100kmi. We all know that luxury German vehicles of any make will and do have issues. Having piece of mind is worth $2-3k in my opinion, especially after what happened to me in another vehicle. Continuous hassle and returns to the dealer are not worth a slight discount.
Further, your dealer sure seems to be working with you by letting you take it home. Even if you did find another deal privately for $4k less, you now have the hassle of dumping/selling your used 3.0. How's the market for those? You ready to wait for two to three months in the meantime? I just picked up a CPO '06 4.8is and I bet you won't wait long :) Trade her in and thank yourself that you did. I find myself leaving the door open, even if it's cold/rainy/windy just to hear it bark back at me when I start it. I'm pretty smitten with the 4.8is and I'm a hard customer to please. |

The '07 on the other hand will skyrocket past $55k with even a hint at the options. Plus, it's a bit softer in looks in my opinion. I absolutely did not like the instruments of the '07 either - they're too damned small just like the Z4's. I looked, and almost bit but am very happy to have gone with the slightly smaller, more exclusive 4.8is '06 model. When BMW finally decides to spice up the '07 as a mid-life crisis I may feel different. |
Plus, I would never buy the first model year of any BMW. They have been notoriously troublesome. I agree with you completely Mitch!

Even for CPO - that price seems too high to me too. Be patient and look around some more - I'll bet you can save $5 - $10K and be even happier than you would be w/this vehicle.

It's all a money game, if they said they'd sell it to him CPO for $52k and gave him 20.5 for his trade would say that's an ok deal? They're adding money to his trade in order to make the deal where they want it. According to www.galves.com, the car you're looking at wholesales for $45ish, so you're definitely not going to get it down below $50k CPO, because the dealer probably had to put tires, brakes, and the warranty on it. I don't think you'll do much better than another grand or two with this one. If you like it, and you can afford it, feed your need ;) If you overbuy, heck, you just kept the values up for the rest of us. |
