4.6is vs 4.8is
 

I'm trying to decide between an '03 4.6is with 45k miles and an '05 4.8is with 25k miles. Price difference is about $15k which could fund an extended warranty and a few mods for the cheaper 4.6is. I'm torn, looking for some input from anyone who has owned or driven both.
I'll probably upgrade to the E70 when all the options are aailible and the come out with an "is" or Alpina model.

05 is newer, less mileage. Should aslo be covered under original manf. warranty.

both have warranty at this time and are certified preowned through dealer...again, i'll probably upgrade to new X5 in 2 - 3 years.

Either way your resale value will be hurt by the new x5 bodystyle. I had the same problem. 4.8 or 4.6. In the end I went for the 4.6 because i drive a ton of miles per year. figured id save some money up front if Im just going to beat the hell out of it. Im not disapointed. MkIII is crap though, and no bluetooth. But that can be fixed. Go with the 4.6 and put the Dinan S2 package on it. and youll still save 10k vs. the 4.8

If you got th cash go 4.8 imo...

4.8is is better deal. Its facelift with all the new goodies.

Personally I am not a fan of the facelifted X5. In addition the 4.8 is not faster than the 4.6. I would definitely get the 4.6 especially considering that this vehicle is an interim vehicle. Then have some fun and throw a few grand into some mods!!!

C&D got .5 second quicker 0-60 runs with the 4.8
