1/4 also, front driver went, had to replace the switch as well.

Replaced the driver's side during warranty. Then, the first one replaced after warranty is the right rear doors, then followed by the left rear door. Then the right front door started to grind last summer, then finally my left front driver's side windows started to grind again so it was replaced again 2 weeks ago.

So, I have had windows regulators replaced 5 times on my '01 X5 with 164,xxx miles.

3/4 here.

May 2005 - Right front replace during purchase
Dec 2005 - Left front replaced at the dealer
Aug 2007 - Left rear replaced using DIY

I have a feeling the right front is about to go again. It moves very slow.

Has anyone ever surveyed to see if the regulators fail as related to colder climates? Possibly the windows freeze or the pieces become brittle. My 01' is 0/0 regulators in a warm climate. Just a thought.

Each of mine broke at a different time of year. However, I refuse to put my windows down when the temp is below 20F.

damn thats pretty sad when you got to worry about rolling down your windows at certain temperatures fear of the fact that the windows may not roll back up or somethin....

That's a good point and I've been thinking about that as well. My 02' is also 0/0, I live in the Northeast, however, my car spends most of it's time in a garage that rarely gets below 50 degrees during winter. I do notice when it's below 20 degrees or so, the windows go up and down very slowly which leads me to believe that temperature has much to do about this problem. Anyway, so far so good for my car.

Amazing how some things never change with BMW. 1 for 4 on the X5 at 39,000 miles, and 3 for 4 on the 528. You'd think BMW would realize that their regulators are crap. Never replaced on in any of the Audis we've owned, or Fords or Chevys for that matter.

I think they're buying the regulators at TOYS R US.... anywayze dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know how I can play m ipod video through the navi screen..?
