You should ask them to annotate/decode it so you can read it.

Good suggestion. I'm going to ask for the service records...I just talked to the dealership and there's another customer asking about the same car!!!! What should I do? I need to get in there asap, but I like about two hours away. Should I ditch work get down there?

You're right. I just called my dad, who I want to come with me, and he told me take my time. He said they would say anything to get someone in to buy the car. They called me a few mins ago at work and told me someone is coming to look at the car at noon. So well see...I really don't want to let this one go but I can't leave work to buy a car!

yup, he could be just playing you... if its not for you, you wont get it... take your time and relax a bit...

heard the same thing from a dealer before, "somebody else is looking at this same X and will be here before the weekend, so this X might not be here in a few days", guess what, drove by their lot the other day and its still there, 3 months after he told me that BS..

One trick you can use if you or your dad has a credit car is to say fine...make them an offer say $22500 or 22000 even for the car (been reading all the posts) and get them to agree. Leave out your trade. Have them email and/or fax it to you in writing in return for a $500 or $1000 deposit on the car. That in turn is their agreement NOT to sell it until you get there within the next day or so to complete the transaction and your way of showing you're a serious buyer. Make sure the $$ is refundable (i.e. on your credit card) and IF the car turns out to be true and a good deal you'll have it all done by the weekend's end. I've done this more than a few times especially when the sales guys want to sell the car to me right there and/or take it home or something like that and I either A) can't get there to do the deal OR b) don't have time to waste in the dealership and have another appt or work waiting.

Also if you do it this way then make sure they have everything DONE for you when you get to the dealership so all you have to do is sign and take the keys...not go thru the 3 hr "let me go talk to the sales manager" bit. I skipped the last salesman I had who did this and went straight into the manager's office and basically said "hey I am looking for more HP and you've got a 4.4 V8 on the lot an 03. let me drive it and if I like it..AND you make my numbers acceptable then I'll trade my 03 X5 3.0 for it cause the difference in price is what I'll end up paying to do aftermarket NAV and supercharge the engine for the extra HP and torque I wanted" Stuck to my price and what I wanted for my trade...48 hrs I had the deal done and car keys and got them to pay off my 3.0 X5 at private party value NOT that ridiculous trade in value (where they make an additional $5k or so on you just on the trade then sell it for $2-3k more as a retail CPO!).
Granted this is my 3rd BMW and 2nd from them so they know me...and that's the BEST thing you can do to get your deal...which is to KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THE X5 as far as options, mileage, and ESPECIALLY COST! I go into a dealership looking for a car knowing pretty much what the inventory IS for the whole are and the neighboring states AND even cross country. I know the private price, trade price, and retail of BOTH their car AND mind. I know the markups, the interest rates, and the dealerhold back $$ too. The more you know and the better intel the better your deal...and don't be afraid to show it to them...hell pull up the internet price for trades/private party on your cell phone if you have to!
Sales guys hate me I think sometimes but I get my deal either from them OR the next guy down the street. As everybody has also said here too..you GOTTA be able to walk OUT the door too and they have to believe you will do it too! Otherwise they will work and play you like a fiddle!

Good luck and sorry so wordy...look forward to seeing your beautiful new X5 soon! :)~

Jorge,

Looks like the VPC, which means the port or processing center refinished
drivers rear door prior to the vehicle being sSoold. When the car arrived in the original port (probably SC), it had some damage on the drivers side rear door (which they repainted. As far as any other body
work, I wouldn't know...She sees no record of body work done by a BMW dealer. Looks like it was serviced well... Since all the BMW dealerships are connected on-line she can see what service has or has not been done. It appears that everything's been done (at least according to the computer reports, that should have been done to date.It isn't certified so you wouldn't have any BMW warranty, but for that number it seems reasonable. It's not a BMW CPO car which means you aren't getting a BMW warranty. There are many opinions around here regarding warranty direct. I'm personally not a fan, but there are some excellent stories of others success. Do a search on Warranty Direct. I don't have anything in a 2003 currently... I wish I could do more!!Self explanatory I think.

My 2 cents: You are buying the car PRETTTTY cheap based on eveything we KNOW at this point. I dont know if the question I asked about the gap in the CarFax was ever answered but you ought to get a detailed service history if foir know other reason so as to know when you need to plan the next oil change, brake job, belts, hoses, wiper blades, etc. Ask if they are willing to sell you an extended warranty, and if so, how much and who is the underwriter. It's its a Warr Direct, then you're just paying for their mark up. If it another, then again, so a search here, but sure to ask if they accept payment DIRECTLY from them vs you pay them and then get reimbursed afterwards..and of course what's the deductible.

Good luck and let's git 'er done !

Thanks Alison
