Yea I bolted my front pass side up last night good as new. I am slow and take my time (what little I have) but prob spent about that much time in actual work now I have been around the block. Last time the car sat for a month while i figured it all out. This time was about 2 weeks but only due to time constraints. Good to know this thread helped someone :)

I'm looking forward to replacing my boots next week. It was tempting to replace the whole driver side axle, but Autohausaz.com has really good prices on boots (~$8 for the inner and ~$10 for the outer boot).

Wow I look forward to never doing one again lol. Do you need an inner boot? They are hard plastic and typically don't rip like the soft rubber outer boots do that dry out. I reused both of mine without issue. I thought about going aftermarket on this part but I think its too much labor to chince. Tho I guess the OEM will run you about $40 for the outer boot AND they don't have good track records to boot.

My CV joint totally seized on me this week and I had to have it towed to my indy. I was planning on doing it myself in the next month or so along with a bunch of other new suspension bits and just ran out of time. I paid $570 for an OEM shaft from the dealer including install at my indy. Totallly reasonable I think considering it was the whole halfshaft. I couldn't be without my car long and it was undrivable so I unfortunately didn't have too much of a choice!

That kinda blows that price isnt too bad tho for OEM. It pays to keep on these "maintenance" items lol.

Great thread, guys! The passenger side boot on my 2001 X5 4.4 just ripped open a month or so ago. After reading this thread I"m thinking about replacing the whole axle instead of messing with the grease and clips.
I found a couple of vendors on eBay offering Lifetime warranty... Don't care much about the warranty, but giving that the job is mostly labor, I'm a bit hesitant about purchasing an from eBay... The price is $100 including shipping, I think that's a bargain. What do you guys think? |

Even though those ebay sellers advise that it comes with warranty but they might just ignore your request when you need to claim it. And credit card company will probably not help because it's most likely over 3 months and they might tell you the warranty is what they call manufacturer warranty which you should contact manufacturer directly but not seller. |
CV Boot repair for $150 Labor + $30 parts
Is this a good price? |
