No argument required on my end. I had the work completed under the BMW factory warranty. I know that some third party extended warranties (based on the coverage level) don't cover everything on the vehicle.

with your contact information and they can repair/replace the screen. I will be doing that this week, will post back the results/cost.

Any news on this repair cost from Alpine?

Bump for any new information on getting the navigation screen fixed.

My Nav is at Alpine right now. I'll post my experiences here when I get it back.

Update:
Called Alpine in Torrance on the 28th to inquire about an estimate, confirm they received it etc. They claimed that they had no record of receiving it. Delivery confirmation on the USPS web site said that it had been delivered on the 24th. I decided to let the issue go through the weekend, all the while worried it was "lost" and I'd have to fight with them re: getting them to pay for a new one.

Yesterday morning (Sat) I got a call from a tech in New Jersey telling me he had my unit and I needed to send them a check for $320 for a new LCD screen. So I am. I mentioned that Torrance told me they never received it and he basically told that they are all F&*^%ed up all the time. So what happened is that they did receive the item, and then sent it to NJ without making any notation in their system as such.

So, contrary to what I was told, all these units are fixed in Jersey and not Torrance. I will post more when I get my unit back.

This is my first post. I hope you guys find this info helpful.

Instead of spending $500 buying a used navigation LCD or $1200 buying a new one. You can try to replace just the LCD.

I had a navigation LCD with dead pixels and grey spots. I followed the instruction posted under navigation->topic 15. Went one step further and detach the LCD screen (4 more screws and two cables). The LCD screen is a Sharp LQ065T9BR51 (or minor variations).

Spent a lot of time googling and found a reseller in China that sell this LCD. They are willing to sell one unit instead of the standard 500 unit lot. They also take paypal and will ship the unti to you relatively fast using DHL.

Seller:www.kecotech.com
Cost: $165 including shipping
LCD: LQ065T9BR53U (New revision works exactly the same as the old one)

Too late for me to go a different route, but my understanding is that the screens all have slightly different viewing properties based on the angle the driver is looking at them from. For example, the X5 screen would not be as clear in a 7 series car. There have been posts in which people have tried to address this problem, I'm not sure where they are.

I got my Nav unit back from NJ and it is perfect -- works great. Cost me $320 which is a lot less than the dealership.
