Great DIY. Made a few things quite better to comprehend.

And it looks like I will need this. I made the mistake of pulling to hard when my locks froze on my auto. Now the drivers side will not open on the outside. Been holding down the unlock button to open the door from the inside( window rolls down).

i changed my passenger door carrier recently.
i bought the part from auto part warehouse it cost $123 so I expected it to be good quality OEM. it was shipped from Lithuania and lasted about 5 pulls before it broke leaving the outer door handle hanging free.

Can anybody recommend a replacement carrier that is of good quality. Is the Bavauto own part any good or should I just bite the bullet and get a genuine BMW part. the local dealer wants near $200 canadian and doesn't have one in stock anyway.

I emailed Craig at Openroad BMW. Brand new. OE from BMW dealer, wait for it, $105 shipped. I just literally ordered it 5 hours ago.

Just email him part number. Tell him you are part of Xoutpost club (discounts for club members) and you get this price. Follow up with a call and leave message if he doesn't get back to you during work hours. Emails go to spam a lot.

If you guys are going to be searching for OEM parts, you should download the BMW PNPC tool. I Googled to get the part # and plugged it into the tool, then it searched a variety of OEM parts suppliers and looks for the best price. In this case, the best price was Husker Parts in Lincoln, NE. They have actually been the lowest on the last 4-5 searches I have done, so if you don't want to use the app, at least check with Husker.

Yea are those OE parts, or OEM? There is a difference.

Just replaced the rear door carrier. Its a bit easier than the front but still not a fun job. Had an issue with the "Bayonet" or the plastic end insert of the door handle. It inserts in to the carrier and then you twist it to hold in place. the plastic "wings" sheered clean off. I thought I was going to have to order a new handle as the bayonet is completely connected to the door handle but my Father (playing my assistant) came up with a good solution...

Here is an example of the piece from Personanongtrata's tutorial.

Mine sheared off.

I drilled a hole.

and fitted a sheet metal screw and a washer.

I think the fix is probably an improvement.

My father is an engineer and he swears that the door handle carrier is planned obsolescence. It doesn't make sense that the metal cylinder that continues to fail does not span the entire width and is segmented in half.

My tabs broke off exactly like that and I did the same fix. Still holding up okay.

The tool can be used to search for either. The instant price check is for OE Genuine BMW parts (button on the left) and searching for OEM parts (button on the right) will launch selected sites to show all other brands available.

I noticed in the screenshot above that AutoPartsWay (Canada) and Clickable Automotive (Australia) don't have quite enough room with the current margin/display size. I'll make sure to fix this in the next update.
