Red vs White 3rd Brake Light
 

I can't figure out the science to why the top brake light is red on some models and white on others, does anyone know?

My 04 3.0 had a clear one and my 05 4.8is has a red one. I would have thought they would have made them all clearer newer and it seems that some model years have clear ones and some don't... anyone know the deal on that? I have always been curious..

it probably has to do with sport vs. non-sport although I have never seen a white 3rd brake light

My 04 4.8iS is white(clear)..

my 04 3.0 with sport was clear, my friends 06 3.0 is read, my 05 4.8is is red, maybe they switched it to red... does anyone have a post 05 that is white?

as I remembered it was changed to white in '03, but ca911 has confused me now... I prefer the red.

Mine is white on the 03 4.6is, thinking about smoking it like my tail lights... that would make it all but disappear when not on.

My 05 4.8 is Clear. :thumbup::thumbup:

My 04 x5 3.0 is clear.

I believe BMW changed the 3rd brake light from clear to red from 2005 model year on. Specifically all X5s built after October 1, 2004.

My 05 4.8is is clear/white
