Sonar's LED tail lights works on all pre-facelift E53s straight out of the box.

It causes flickering on post-facelift E53s due to the adaptive braking system.

I was under the impression that there was no flickering issue with the Sonar's from Zomk straight out of the box.

I ordered a pair myself for my 02. Will I also need to get a pair of resistors?

I don't think this is true...I have 2003 4.4 & installed yesterday Sonar Led's & let me tell you that they are FLICKERING like a Christmas tree + the wiring in Sonar Leds was different from my OEM so I needed to change the pins in my OEM socket for them to work but they still flickered...

So I think every car is different - on some pre-facelift they are Ok but some will have problems...

As was mentioned if they flicker, you will need to get RL-650 Tail Light Load Resistor kit from Super Bright Leds for them to work properly.

Make sure you mount those load resistors on the metal body of the X (to help dissipate with heat) and keep it away from any wiring loom as those resistors do get super HOT. A 50W resistor isn't worth a darn if you don't help it dissipate the heat!

Can I ask a quick question? It appears there are two companies that make rear LED tail lights for the X...Sonar and some other company. Has anyone compared the two as far as brightness and quality?

Philly I see U had a tough time with the Taillights.....I was just about to order mine.....but i dont think its worth it.....

I hate installing any aftermarket part that needs a resistor...IT GETS HOT!!!!
Tends to burn other ISHT ......

2003 is a wack year for MODS! lolol

Where exactly do we wire in this resistor? Thank you very much.

I am not sure, maybe someone here can help with this question...

I just ordered another set from GT-Racers hopefully maybe that pair wont flicker, if not I might use the resistor's...
