Had the perfect opportunity work out, with a late '90s 'Vette at a red light.

I've been running a manual since I was 10, and I'm not bad at it. But I really have to say, there is an art to getting in synch with the manual 'auto' tranny.

I suspect it would help if it shifted faster. With the Stage 4 engine software, Dinan never mentioned and Trans software upgrades. I'm thinking that may help.

I was slow of the green...but kept pace.

It takes a lot of ponies to make up for a 1600# weight penalty.

375 'ish flywheel maybe, and lots of driveline loss.

I enjoy the vehicle, and in a few years it qualifies for collector plates, for cheaper insurance. So maybe an addition of an X5 M.

The best thing about the 4.6is...is appreciating it every time I see it. Not many cars like that. Here's to a long Honeymoon...

I suspect the wheel spacers help as well.

I've got the Sec Air code...both sides. I suspect vacuum hose, the work it just had on the front timing cover getting disturbed.

I'll likely do the plugs and a compression test, and if I have the time, a leak down test. I prefer to do them with the piston close to TDC, where the rings have a more real world state of the union.

I have a spare set of M62tu heads. I wonder if there is any benefit from porting to be had?

I've had great luck with the NGK Iridiums. Likely the better option?

Because of the weight of the X5 look for mods that are more focused on increasing torque.

The stage 4 engine software was part of the S2 package. It was not sold separately to the best of my knowledge. It was matched to get the most out of the rest of the mods. The S2 package included their throttle body, MAF, CAI, exhaust, strut tower brace, transmission software, deck lid badge, floor mats, and S2 plaque. It increased the HP to 369 and TQ to 382.

Headwork is beneficial but performance increase per dollar spent is not a good value equation. Porting is only part of what should be done if you go that direction. There are other mods that are a better value.

I don't have the strut brace.

The car had hit a deer, but I don't see any evidence that any damage would have caused the removal of the brace.

More likely, if it ever did have it, it was removed to sell separate.

It will be interesting to see what the dealership has to say.

I do not disagree, that port work on these heads would give minimal benefits. A CNC replication would likely be needed to take advantage of some low lift potential.

Just good valves and guides, with good valve seals.

I need to get the cam phasing kit. They've come down in price quite a bit.

Had some nasty weather here, so photos delayed...

Is there anything I need to do to post photos?

Thanks

Bought another 4.6. Will start a thread when I get my arms wrapped around some supposedly small issues. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7de68f3aab.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...744d1aa87d.jpg

Cool beans man. I am admittedly biased but if I had to bet which between the 4.6is and 4.8is would become a classic, I would be tempted to bet on the 4.6.

To late to guess. The stats are in, the 4.6 wins. Lol

I posted about that 4.6 earlier. Is it true that all it "needed" was a throttle body?

Not sure yet. My buddy scanned it in PA soft in Colorado, and he said that throttle actuator and pedal potentiometer codes were present. I have both parts on the shelf, so will find out whats going on. If all goes according to plan, she'll run on Saturday coming.
