Be interested to see someone fit it on their 3.0D!

Didnt mean to hurt your feelings mate!

I just think.. well its only really my opinion, that we all dont have the resources be it, workshops/trust worthy repitable garages where we want to take our X5's to have someone experiment on it. I think its cool how you have your own garage and expertease to be able to do the job properly. However the rest of us want something maybe alittle more simpler.

I dont really want to send my £50k X5 off to a local garage for a few days.. one what the hell do i drive for a few days and secondly what sort of job will this garage do. If anyone thinks its possible to fit on a tip and has/ any pics would be good to look at.

You are right!I sometimes I take my situation for granted! The first step here is to find a expert workshop to do the job.My idea to submit the article was for those of you who want to do the exhaust mod to take this to a workshop and ask them,"Can you do this?"
If you found someone able to do it ,it would only take a few hours,so you wouldnt need to leave your car for days!

Its easy for me to say but to weld tips on the end of the oem silencers is just as big a job as fitting the complete silencers.Fitting tips on the downpipes is by far the easiest but you would still need to cut and weld should you want your tips facing outwards.
I will try and come up with something to show you guys..............

My personal opinion : go for the real thing, so do not weld tips on the oem diesel tips. But again, it's my personal view.:)

Nice one. Sound like a plan.
Its nice to have an alternative. I await your article and pics etc. Will be interesting reading :)

X5 3.0D Sport Exhaust Kit

3 Attachment(s)
I've been reading your thread on the exhausts for the diesel X5. We too had the same problem with our demo car and so we have had a DIY kit made that bolts onto the original exhaust system. It uses top grade Stainless steel for the pipework, centrebox and rear silencers that come with the usual guarantee. it uses factory fixings (ie rubber hangers ) its easy to fit, so much so that your local exhaust centre could fit it in 15-20 mins. it uses 57mm tube diameter to retain factory back pressure, it has a large centre section to enhange rear exhaust note but it keeps cabin noise down to standard. it has an urgent whistle with a rushing air noise only heard from the car following...sounds great.
You can keep your original system and put this on later when you sell it as this will not be dammaged in any way !!

My pictures are poor at the moment because it was a dull rainy misty day but i hope you can get the idea of what it looks like. We do a 4.8 spec look at the moment and we are having twin rounds made as we speak. the price is £495 + Vat includes P&P in the UK.

We also do the Uprated ECU's plug and play, modified front mounted alloy intercoolers and induction systems. Our car runs in road going tune ( ie low boost ) Gives an extra 60 BHP over the standard vehicle this is actual dyno proven on a proper 4 WD dyno, torque figure is huge...If interested drop me a line and have a go in our demo X5

Will try and take some better photos...

Regards
Chris

Your idea to weld tips to the end of the mufflers was my other option before I fitted the 4.8's!Although not functional,it may not be a bad idea!It would look the same as if the 4.8 silencers were there, but with the added advantage that your exhaust gases would be flowing downwards.

i've just been to my local so called "Exhaust experts." They say they can weld on stainless steel tips to the end of the 3.0D exhaust and get it exposed. Around £200.
Extend and use stainless steel welds so that the exhaust tips extend out.
Question now what sort of tip do i go for. Big oval one or twin exhausts either side.

Chris, are you saying you sell these kits with the rear pipes, rubbers, mounts etc..? at that price in the UK (where I am).

Could I fit these myself? would the car still pass an emissions test?

As you can see, I`m more than interested.
