Did you finish wrapping the trim? I'm thinking about wrapping my trim too, but in silver. Any tips?

MINIz guy 09-08-2011 09:09 PM

No. :lmao:

I just need the center console wood and the rear cup holder wood trim done and it will be complete but IDGAF anymore. As a high school student with many other high school student friends, there is no point in completing the project as it will just get trashed quickly. I also have one A-pillar done but the other one is still bubbled. :nanana:

Tips: Sharp scissors (preferably ones for clothing), 3M Super 77, hot glue gun and lots of relief cuts. It is pretty easy once you get started but is time consuming. Relief cuts help a lot with reducing wrinkles and then you can even get this fabric stretched around tight curves such as the shifter trim. Don't coat the glue on too thick as the glue can bleed through the fabric.

lol. thanks. I'm kind of nervous about doing it myself now..

have fun driving your half suede/half wood ghetto-fabulous X5 around! :nanana:

It really isn't hard; I wasn't trying to discourage you from tackling this DIY. It takes time, time that I don't have in school.

I like my ghetto X5. It looks decent from the outside (just check out my userpage for recent pictures) but is slowly falling apart. I've got blue painter's tape over the window switches so that the windows are only controlled by me; I can't risk breaking a window regulator now that school is in full swing!

Come on man! Finish what you started! :stickpoke:

For askhao, if you want to wrap, try the 3M carbon fiber vinyl. It is easy to deal with curves. You just need a hair dryer or heat gun set low.

askhao 09-11-2011 03:18 AM

I was thinking about using the 3M vinyl, not carbon fiber though, most likely an aluminum type of silver. The wrapping doesn't seem too hard. Taking out each piece of trim, and the huge center unit is the tricky part.

The trim pieces are super easy. The only slightly tricky piece is the CD player cover, if you don't have navigation. The center console just takes patience and the instructions we have posted.

Go for it!
