Why did you pull the transmission?

Replaced the old, crumbling plastic bulkhead pieces that are just forward of the firewall. Was easier job than expected. Now the weather strip at the back of the engine compartment actually has something to ride on and be held in place properly.

I'll give that Zep a try. I recently had a huge mess to clean up when a friend of my wife stopped by briefly to drop something off. Her son had failed to tighten the oil filter after an oil change and she left oil all over my driveway. I spent about an hour grinding kitty litter with my feet. You can still follow the oil trail all the way up our street and several blocks away to her friend's house. Luckily she drove straight home and I warned her something was wrong as soon as I saw my driveway. Her son found the loose oil filter and unbelievably she had not run out of oil before getting home!

For oil spill on driveway nothing compares to oil eater. I buy by the gallon and mix 2:1 or 3:1 water: oe in a pump sprayer.

That seal at the back of the hood is instrumental at keeping engine smells out off the cabin.

Were you thinking the oil pan in the foreground was the transmission?

Now I see it. It's the oil pan upside down. With the axle carrier sticking out like that I glanced at it and though it was a transmission. I'm a dumbass. lol

I was also wondering wth that was for a minute. It's kind of shocking how tall the thing is but to fit the seal around the inner CV joint it has to be.

I, as well.. I’ve been using it for over 3 decades, good stuff! However, this one particular stain was stubborn. I made multiple attempts at soaking, scrubbing, and power washing to no avail.

I got the GoofOff, and it got the job done. Oil Eater has always worked for me though. :dunno:

I actually have my floor jack under the transmission pan as redundancy in supporting the vehicle. I never trust just one thing to keep the vehicle from crushing me!

That oil pan is a monster! I did my wife's E83 (w/N52) gasket a couple years ago. One difference I discovered on this one.... the danged dipstick (N52 doesn't have one). I just assumed the pan would slip off that dipstick tube, but NOOOOOOOO! I fought it for awhile and finally got the dipstick out and the oil pan pretty much fell to the ground!

Did my pan last summer, yep its a fun job, but also did both axle seals and both Orings for the diff to pan and extension/support bearing.
A buddy owns a trans shop so he loaned me a engine support/cross brace, works like a charm. I also completely got my front sub frame out of the way.
