Just finished installing left side axle shaft on my 2005 X5 3.0 over the weekend. Installation was pretty straightforward and drama-free (no rust on the car, luckily) but central Texas summer heat and an un- air conditioned garage kept my progress glacially slow.

While I was in there I took off all four wheels and cleaned them thoroughly. Put new Akebono ceramic pads on the front brakes. Rotors mic'ed well within spec so I should be good for a few more road trips. Topped off the front dif but didn't need but a few drops.

New tires happening this week in preparation for a trip on Saturday.

Best regards,
Chris

I feel your pain about the heat. I was lucky and got my rebooting done before it hit 47c.

It's getting hot enough to have your sweat make you hydroplane off the toilet now....

BWAHAHAHAHA! So much truth. My MO on this project was to start early and drink lots of Topo Chico.

Best regards,
Chris

Shiieett.. With all the heat we’ve had here in Texas, I’m damn near gonna need a reboot.

New tires and an alignment for the 2005 X5 3.0 yesterday, changed the oil today. Standing tall at 64174 miles and ready for action! Hopefully, anyway, 'cause she's getting ready to see some. :-)

The 2002 X5 (also a 3.0, 31725 miles) got fancy new front window tinting today (no factory tint on the front windows ... think it might not have even been legal back in those days). I have no idea why it took me so long to have this done - looks great, and helps knock down the TX heat, too. At least a little bit.

Interestingly, when I was having the window tint done there was a really nice X3 E83 in the shop getting detailed. 2006 I think. Rare to see, at least in these parts, especially in such nice condition.

Best regards,
Chris

My garage mini split is life changing. Without it, DC muggy summers are just unbearable.
