the donut is a 19" spare - nothing in stock 20" rims will fit in the space provided...

besides, the factory setup is staggered and a lot of times those tires are directional, so a spare has to be distinct from the regular setup...

and having replaced the tires in the rain, i have no problems with smaller donuts, it is much lighter than the rear ones... those are too heavy for my tastes...

PS: however, I loved that both my E34 and E39 had full spares in matching rims...

Just ordered some new tension struts and ball-joints for the front-end. Hopefully this will make the "thunk" go-away! It's not making the car drive bad - it's just bad for my OCD.

Found the best pricing for Meyle-brand parts on eBay. $121 each for the "HD" arms and a pair of ballpoints for $60.
