CTSC has PDF's for how to do this, and where the fills etc are |
BUMP.
I just read all 10 pages and learned some new things about my 2005 X5 4.4… My X has 109k and I want to change the fluid, gasket, filter and rear plug seal. However, I am still confused on how to do it and I have a couple questions… 1- What kind of Transmission Fluid should I get? 2- Where can I purchase the rear plug seal on the transmission? –I mentioned this because my X is leaking fluid and did some research…found this is a common problem where it leaks. 3- Know any DIY links I can read? 4- Know any websites I can purchase everything? Sorry for the noob questions… Thanks in advance! |

I'll make sure the buy from thectsc.com By chance do you know anything about the rear plug seals on the transmissions? |
No I haven't had to change mine, bit I think if you search here you will find a thread. I know I've seen one. Maybe someone with a computer (I'm on iPhone) might be able to search for you if you can't find it.

Rummage around on their site, and there is WAYYY more info there that one really needs. |
The difference of the two trannys is 5 speed and 6 speed. The trannys are very different inside and out.
Thanks for the reply slickgt1. Makes sense. |
I have read most of the Transmission fluid diy's, but I am still puzzled about one step in the procedure, when refilling the fresh fluid, does the transmission pan or the car has to be level? the back of my 2006 x5 has to be on ramps and the front without for the transmission pan to be level. could anyone verify this, I am in the process of changing my fluid but I wanted to make sure.

The vehicle should be level
