I dropped the pan today and went a step further to get a complete fluid swap to dex-vi. Refilled the pan then I took the lower cooler line loose (return) and fitted a clear tube to the cooler nipple and ran the other end to a gallon milk jug. Started the eng and when the jug filled to my quart line stopped eng and added a new quart to the pan. And so forth until I saw clean fluid in the tube. Reconnect the cooler line and did a final top off with eng running.

Transmission Fluid for '01 X5 3.0i
Just bought a used transmission (GMA5S390RTZ) for my '01 X5 3.0i & am about to get it installed.
Dealer A told me I should use Texaco ETL 8072 B fluid ($18.50 / litre from dealer). Dealer B says I could get away with Valvoline Dexron 6 full synthethic fluid or Amsoil ATF ($9.75) for vehicles requiring GM Dexron 6. Can someone pls advise on what way to go? I need to make a decision urgently |
Go with dealer B ant synthetic that is the dex 6 spec. including Mobil1

Thank you so much Ghost-Flame.
Just spoke to an Amsoil dealer who says the Amsoil Dexron 6 is compatible with my car. Appreciate the quick response & your time. |

I recently went through this and decided on RedLine D4ATF: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ed-bmw-gm.html It has been about 9,000 miles and everything is working perfectly. |
