Is that a 4.6/4.8 exhaust I spy too? Beautiful. I did the same with my Topazblau car

4.6 is bolt on, 4.8 sounds better but requires welding.

Manual E53 round two for me! Sold my 01’ 5 speed in 2022 and missed it since. A couple weeks ago I was going to my local pick-and-pull and noticed this in the parking lot out front. Met the guy in the yard looking for comfort seats for it, and long story short I’m buying it this week! Estoril Blue, six speed, sport package, no pano roof, no TPMS, and more! It’s definitely not perfect but it’s been cared for it’s whole life!

Nice, would have loved to have overheard that conversation. Let the “fun” begin!

Awesome find!!
She looks pretty well maintained and clean. I would love to see the maintenance book!! Please let me know what EXACT phrase/words you used to explain to your wife about going to a parts yard and instead buying this beauty, so that she hasn't issued the sofa sleeper challenge! Feel free to add me to the list
Hi,
I finally feel comfortable that my new to me X5 is not too far gone. I found a 2001 5 speed X5 with over 300k miles on facebook marketplace in poor shape and negotiated a price of $1200. the clearcoat has pretty much flaked off on all horizontal surfaces, the driver's side door card is in pieces, brakes do not work, the drivers rear window regulator is not working, the catalytic converters had been cut off, all 4 tires were bald and not holding air, 4:3 nav radio has a smashed screen and the DSP and amp seem to be not working, among other things. So far I have done the following: welded the exhaust manifold and catalytic converters back together and replaced all 4 o2 sensors. installed a set of used tires. discovered that the brakes didn't work because the front calipers were gone, so installed new calipers, pads, wear sensors and brake lines. Now that I've got it running and driving, I think it is safe from the scrap yard and I'm overall pretty happy with it. My remaining issues: for some reason, the previous owner cut the wires going to the rear view mirror (replacement mirror on order) passenger side auto dimming mirror has leaked all of it's "dimming fluid" to the bottom 2/3 of the mirror (new mirror on order) new android radio and passive speaker crossovers (still need to install) drivers seat leather is too worn to save. driver's door panel still needs replaced. need to install new window regulator and replace the plastic window retention pieces with some I've already 3d printed. getting an air suspension inactive message (the pump runs briefly when the battery is hooked up and the truck doesn't sag at all, sensor maybe?) the transmission is difficult to put in reverse, the gear shifter is floppy and it's very easy to miss 3rd and go straight into 5th. I'll have to look into how to fix this, but I'm also tempted to see if its possible to swap in the 6 speed from the post facelift truck. haven't figured out the cargo area cover yet. not sure if mine is broken. replaced the hose between the secondary air pump and valve with a rubber hose and 3d printed adapter. handle for the cargo floor board is broken. center console armrest latch does not work. need to sew a new shift gaiter. need to replace some of the instrument cluster bulbs and replace the LCD screen (missing pixels) missing windhield washer reservoir, passenger front wheel well liner, air duct that sits above the radiator upper support, tow hook cover, front kidney grills, and center console cup holder sliding cover. glued most of the door panel back together. for now remaining codes from my Foxwell NT510 are for the AUC sensor, and the auxiliary water pump, the electric radiator fan does not come on when I trigger it using the scanner. Thats all for now. Most of the issues seem manageable and I look forward to painting the X5 and getting it back to it's former glory |
Thinking of selling my 2001 (well, late 2000) E53 X5 5 speed. Black on black, Sport package. ~165k miles
Largely nice condition, I've owned it nearly 10 years & spent money on it when needed, but I want a newer car to tow with.. I know it has a failing passenger window regulator (was going to fix it over winter, but it was just too cold in the barn) and the microswitch in the passenger door is over sensitive (sometimes says the door is open on left hand bends..) Any interest? I'll give it a clean and put some photos up in the For Sale section. Columbus Indiana. |
