I never had a grind, just a slight notch. Detents was probably the solution, just an oil change did not cure it for me. The DSSR really cleaned up the pattern, it’s extremely tight now. Definitely sped up the shifting. At one point mine got so sloppy, that in gear felt like neutral in most other vehicles. |

Greetings from South Jersey, I purchased a 01 X5 manual transmission 5spd with about 175k last summer as a impulse purchase out in Pennsylvania ... I have replaced the rear trailing arm bushings on both sides and camber arms as well ... I’m currently looking to sell it as I am looking at other projects To fund . Please inbox me if interested. It is blue with black leather and has had plenty of work done in the last two years while hardly ever being driven . Please inquire for details

How do you replace the detents? I have never heard of this but I also have slight notchiness going from 1st to 2nd as well. I changed the trans fluid when i got the car about 15k miles ago. |

https://webspace.ringling.edu/~dplas...hift_pins.html I think it's really the reverse and 5th detents that are important in shifter aligment. The others (the small ones on top of the transmission) were easier to do, so might as well do those, too. The one thing I can add to the guide is that if your shifter leans to the right, that 5th gear detent will probably be tough to get out. i used a 5/16" concrete wedge (lag) anchor wrapped with one layer of duct tape to grab it from the inside. I used a slide hammer on the concrete anchor bolt, but if you use a longer bolt, you can use something else to lever it out if you don't have a slide hammer. |

My Old Friend - Time to See it Go!
Hello All,
I've been debating to sell or not sell my longtime friend. I'm the second owner of the 2001 5 speed 3.0 with 160k miles. I've taken care of it since 2008 always garaged kept and in extreme cleaning and shape condition, many upgrades to list. Hard to say good bye to an old friend but priorities have changed, don't have the time to drive it as much as I would like to, so generally it seats in the garage with occasional weekend drives. I'm currently running my summer 20' wheels set with Diamaris tires, but also will come with the all season 18' wheels set. Check it out, some pictures attached to give you a sense of the current condition! So I'm reaching out to the E53 community to see if there is any interest before posting to other platforms. E53 is currently registered and garaged in Lorton Virginia. VIN WBAFA53501LH79198, I can provide more details of repairs, upgrades, photos, video. https://xoutpost.com/members/francce...bmw-x5-e53.jpg https://xoutpost.com/members/francce...2-img-6327.jpg https://xoutpost.com/members/francce...3-img-6199.jpg https://xoutpost.com/members/francce...2-img-6189.jpg https://xoutpost.com/members/francce...1-img-6193.jpg |
Hey all been a member for a bit here.
I traded in my original 05 4.8iS for a 10 X3 6MT. That car was met with an unfortunate end and thus the search began. Craigslist found me an 04 Toledo Blue/Beige/Sport/CWP/Nav/6MT X5. It's not in the greatest shape but I plan on fixing it up. Fleet consists of: 04 M3 Carbon Black/Cinnamon/6MT Dinan S3 (with many other mods, it's FBO, built head, cams etc) 00 M5 Royal Red/Caramel Extended 00 Z3M Coupe (in the process of a S54 Turbo and 6MT swap) |
