The lighter wheels/tires also allow the shocks, springs and sway bars to work more efficently, similar to stiffer shocks, springs and sways installed with the OE wheels/tires. Big/heavy wheels/tires do the opposite, 10 lbs per assembly is like loading 400 lbs of stuff into the vehicle. Ultra low profile tires also beat up the crap out of suspension components due to ZERO sidewall flex, not to mention a small road hazard such as a 2x4 will have you replacing a cracked wheel, when an X with 19"s or 20"s will suffer no damage at all. It's a BMW, not a '62 Impala, try to bump up performance with mods, not bling factor.

Bling is not the issue it's all black all the way around so I'm not trying to pimp it out. I just don't like small rims on an SUV. I have 19s on it now but I have snow tires in it as well it looks fine b/c of the tires but I have to get them off asap. I think nice rims with fat tires look horrible and that's not the look I want. Maybe I will look into a very lite weight 22s. Do you know of any good sites?

I spent over a year searching online for a set of good, lightweight wheels that had a load rating right at the max gross weight of the X. Found a set on e-bay with $1200 of Hankook W speed rated rubber with mold titties still on tread area, Cali seller, his GF buried the nose of his X into a huge tree totalling it. Sniped for $600 (3am auction end time), figured if the wheels were bent I still had rubber worth double that, cost $150 to ship, wheels are good. If you want wheels tires sit back and wait for the deals and save a ton.

22" RangeRover Storm. Tiresize 285/35/22 Toyo proxes.

Drives okay, my 17" (style 57) wintersetup has more comfort.

My X is a sports edition btw. And i think 24" is too big, but it is your car dude.....

Those are nice. You didn't have to do any mods at all right, just buy them and put them on?

There is a local shop here who has the style 215s in ferric grey in 22". Obviously they are replicas but they look so good and I am so tempted to pull the trigger. Only thing is I am iffy about replicas. If I am going to do it, I want it done right. All the weeks I have found cost over 5gs rubber less. Not worth it in my opinion.

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know what mods are needed to put 24 inch rims on an 06 X5?

Thanks

I have OE 20s on mine and I would say 21" are about the limit ,most would go to with their E53,thus keeping a standard look as well as being practical and keeping some reasonable ride confort.

You say you saw some on CarDomain with 24",then you would have seen that the tyres would have to be 275/25/24 and are such a low profile that you will be riding almost on the wheel!

Each one to their own and I have the same opinion of most here, but if you want to go ahead with it,then you dont need any mods!Just get wheels with the ET (OFFSET) as close to OE as possible and the corrrect size tyres and the 24" will bolt straight on with no mods.

Anyway ,I took some pics of the X5 with 24"in a local shop ,to give you another idea

no offense but that does NOT look right at all...that just made the X look really cheap.

That's what I said, but the OP didn't seem to read my post.

It's plainly visable that the tire diameter is MUCH larger then the OE diameter, those front wheels will not provide much steering angle B4 rubbing the crap out of the wheelwells. The 275-25-24 size is about 1/2" larger in diameter and 20mm wider then the OE 255-55-18 that came stock on the X, those clear the front wheelwell liners both front and rear by about 1/4" with the steering wheel turned to full lock. Hope you can live with crazy tire rub that will most likely damage/destroy your wheel liners.

FWIW, It looks like Coolio's ride, "ya' can't hav da' hop if ya' don't hav da' hip"!
