Ok, you're almost there. So you want to move the mirror so it is pointing up. Then take a flat screwdriver, wrap the head with a few wraps of electrical tape and wedge it on the bottom. From there, pry the holder up and it should slide out of its holder. Installation is opposite of removal but, flip the motor plate down and slide the backing onto the pins.

that sounds as it may work.
I'm just trying to be careful not to break the whole mirror setup.

Has anyone else done this before? (tips on how to remove the glass piece)

Yeah, I did it a few month ago on the drivers side. The glass is held on by a pressure slide fit. Just gently pry the plastic piece up and it will come out.

make sure you pry up first to pop the clips out!

DO NOT PRY OUT FIRST, you will break the clips off the backing plate.

I did that in a hurry (it was cold in winter) and I had to buy a "mirror motor repair kit" which had a new backing plate and motor, and had to take apart that, in order to get the replacement backing plate off to use on my mirror motor. It was a 165 dollar mistake!

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP! Mirror Finally off and replaced!
Didn't break anything while replacing.
