Mine is 760- So we're within a hundred! If they put out about 1,000 vehicles/day in 2012, I'm betting they could get over a hundred done in one day way back in 2004. I say... TWINS!

Edit:
Doing some research, I found an interesting tidbit on the 4.8is production in Spartanburg. I had never realized that they didn't produce 4.8is until April of 2004. It's even on the Wiki!

This means (theoretically) that there are no small sunroof/non-adaptive headlight 4.8is' running around. Who knew?

Follow what Propellerhead said. That part number is a remanufactured unit. ;)

IF it did happen, which I doubt, I would hate to be that person who got stuck with no pano and no adaptive HLs.

you guys are the best. So I understand here are the facts: I may have a TCU without BT installed or if I am lucky I may have already the one with BT but I may need to do some coding? I guess all I need first to find what part number I have. If non BT one installed I can purchase the one with BT and replace...

Man, I LOVED my 10/03 production 3.0 with the small roof and the non-adaptive headlights. It was just so... SIMPLE. Too many things to break in that big ole roof and all the WEIGHT! All that glass so up high is HORRIBLE for handling- even as good as it is on the 4.8is.

And, I suppose my little girl was just a baby.. no iPads, no earrings, no preference in dress... A simpler time all around.

According to the SIB, if you have an X5 manufactured from 10/03-10/04, you need to replace the entire BMW Assist/BT unit with the correct BT module. Whatever part # that is- I know what worked for me, and had I known about a reman unit, I would have bought it from a reputable source. My BMW Assist had a BT Passkey card and everything. Didn't work for sh!t.

According to B841405, the only difference in the 'Early Production' process and the Later Production' is in how the new TCU is coded/the process for activating it. Unless a hack exists or the docs are incorrect, the TCU will need to be replaced from 10/03-10/04 production.

Yours is SO close to the dates, however, I think I would try every d@mn thing I could before dropping the cash. Start by finding the part # for the BMW Assist module in your trunk and searching for it specifically. I found some documentation citing three part #'s from E60's of the time that absolutely would not work without replacement. Since the reference wasn't E53, I didn't include it here.

Good luck.
