so, he can use CDs (he has one for the wrong region now) or DVDs...

the disk in that link should work, as the cars listed are the iBus cars... and the price is more reasonable...

BTW...it was mentioned back in post #11 that there are different DVDs or CDs...depending on if you have the I-bus or MOST (i-Drive) communication bus. And the link to the Craig's List offer...the e53 is NOT listed as being compatible with the discs that were for sale because these are the "CCC" discs which only work with the MOST (iDrive) communication bus.

And yes...the choices are the dealer, or used discs (CDs and/or DVDs), or burnt discs sold by sellers on eBay and other websites.

Again, the OP hasn't identified a model/model year...so it isn't known if they have the MK III (uses CDs only) or the MK IV (can use CDs or DVDs)...but whichever nav unit they have...the "CCC" discs do not work in the e53 regardless of any model/model year.

I purchased region 1 & 2 2012 DVD discs for my 06's MK IV back in February from a vendor on eBay...I paid $30 for the set. The original DVD had the whole USA on 1 DVD...apparently when Tom Tom took over, they split the DVD into two regions.

If you have the MK IV, you need to look for the "HIGH" DVD discs (and you can also use CDs), but again, the "CCC" DVDs are for the newer BMWs that have iDrive...and if you have the MK III...you can only use CDs:

Thank you very much Qsilver7 ..ya i should had read all the post....it is DVD on mine, seems that the eBay link from Pap smear is the one

Tx

 Great...thanks for the update. And really consider creating a permanent signature that contains your model/model year/build date (click the USER CP link at top of page)...this info helps us to help you better...as well as helps others they may run across your posts in the future. It gives them a perspective of the content in your posts as far as upgrades & solutions etc. and if it the specifics of your model/model year applies to their situation. :)

I emailed the seller and they said they can't explain what shows and what doesn't that its tomtom maps not theirs. if I put the dvd in the.computer I would see that its a 2013 edition maps. Google maps on my phone is 100x better so I'm asking if there is any alternatives

That's interesting (not saying you're wrong) because...I was under the impression that Tom Tom owns Tele-Atlas which now makes the (some feel much inferior) BMW navigation maps...which used to be made by NavTeq until around 2009.

Do you still have the link to the BMW website page that says Navteq still makes the nav maps?

pap smear 04-02-2013 12:49 PM

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/acc...lroadmaps.html

after going to this site on the bottom right corner it has a link to check if your maps are up to date and it sends you to a navteq coverage map but it says its accurate to 2012
