Brought my last wheel sensor from O'Reilley because the one I ordered from Turner Motorsport was the wrong one. Gave Turner my VIN and everything and still they sent me the wrong sensor. When I brought it to their attention, they said that base on the VIN number it was the right one, so I took photos of my old sensor and the new sensor they sent to show them that they sent the wrong sensor. Had to pay the return shipping to get my refund. Not even an apology. That was last time I ordered anything from Turner. I have been a customer of Turner since I owned my E34 Touring. O'Reilley's part fits perfect and worked perfect and it came with a lifetime warranty.

So...quick update. After taking a kick or two to get the wheel off...lol!, I did my 1st X5 (or any car for that matter!) maintenance. Replaced the sensor with really little issue. Except 1...

After driving in to the office this am the trifecta popped again! I was dumbfounded as I knew I did everything right. When I read back through posts after I got ini, I did make 1 minor mistake. I replaced the WRONG SIDE! lol!!!!!!! I did the left instead of the right! UGH! Well, lesson learned!

Based on "upallnight"'s info above, I called O'Reilleys this morning and ordered another sensor. My all-in for $52 from eEuro vs $60 and pick it up local was worth the $8 difference. I'll get that done over the next day or two, especially now that I know what I'm doing! lol!

I don't know if it has been mentioned but a faulty (or misaligned) brake light switch can cause the Trifecta to show up.

^^Yep that was my issue actually it took me about a year to figure out - $28 and I was good to go.

Ok, lots of good info here...my issue is I only got 2 of the 3?
The yellow brake light and the traction control light in the dash. ( No ABS light)
Happened just after I picked it up from my indy. He did the corroded brake line repairs under the drivers side plastic shroud. ( that's a whole 'nother thread). Said he had to cycle the ABS module quite a bit to clear all of the air out of the lines.

I checked the reservoir (still full) and the repaired areas ( no sign of any leaks) and everything seems OK.
Drove it back to my driveway, shut the car off and it cleared the lights.

I guess I should prepare for the wheel sensors?

My X5 (165,000km) experienced the intermittent, combined brake light and DSC light a couple of months ago. This lead to the occasional disengagement of the 4WD and engine limp mode. It didn't show up any engine check codes on the analyser.
After reading this forum and given the mileage, I first decided to replace the plastic wheel in the transfer case actuator as a precaution(the old wheel looked remarkably good, however). This didn't fix the intermittent warning lights, though.......very frustrating!
Anyway, as a final thought, before I took the car to the workshop to professionally check the various sensors etc., I decided to fully replace the brake fluid (as I hadn't replaced it in almost 4 years). There were no bubbles in the fluid, just a darkened colour with a little bit of cloudy sludge.
It seems to have fixed the problem.....it's been 3 weeks now without any warning lights! HAPPY DAYS!
Just a suggestion.......check and replace your brake fluid, if you are experiencing the warning light problem...........it may be that simple?!

If only all trifecta faults were sorted that easily! :D

craigsx5, not sure if the Aussie cars are the same Euro spec. we get in over here but after at least two years (seven hundred-odd days actually) since the last brake fluid change a small clock icon should appear in your dash - beneath the service countdown indicators - to warn you that a brake fluid change is due. Not sure if this is true of the low spec. cluster but it pops up on the high spec. version. The reset for the brake fluid countdown is in the same menu as for the oil/inspection reset.
