I am not concerned if the kit is fiberglass or polypropylene, or whatever it is - I don't hit curbs, etc. The X5 is much taller then the 530 I daily drive, which is sitting pretty low, and I yet have to hit the bumper. The fender flares are still packed, and to be truthful, I start being also curious if they are fiberglass or a different material. Having more work to do in the garage, I will unwrap the stuff, and let you guys know what the material of the flares & brows is. |
Fitment is very good, as the front spoiler is a very tight fit it cracked the small wrap arounds on the ends that sit inside the wheel arch, so I reinforced them with a little more f/glass, this is the only place I glued either spoiler and had no further issues. I used plastic rivets in the ceiling of the small bottom grill also which worked well. Cracking in f/glass is usually due to flex so its important to have a very secure fit. Cheers.

Good to hear about the fitment, Doru I'm subscribed for your impressions after install, maybe 4.6 kit for me after all :)

So here are the pics of the fender flares & the brows.
They are all fiberglass. The brows are grey colored, the flares are the same shade of black, or close, as the ones on the SAV. Not sure why I have 6 pieces for the flares. Thought I should have only 4. http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...pse774b17d.jpg http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps457f83a7.jpg http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps0b38a99e.jpg http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...psd92d8392.jpg |
They sell the same kit without the fender flares for $400

You have 6 flares because,2 are for the front,2 for rear wheelarches and 2 are for bumper. How do you plan to fix them on?I suggest windscreen black adhesive mastik for a permanent fitting. |

Thanks for the suggestion how to attach the flares. |
How will those fender flares look, compared to original? I've seen some 4.6 and 4.8is' where the fenders look weird, and the ends (especially the rear end) of the running boards didn't look wide enough for the flares to blend in properly. Is it supposed to look like this?
If these glue-on fiberglass parts look close to original, I'm really considering the whole kit. I don't have ~$900 to spend just on the OE-flares. I'm good at making things look good, but if it's a lot of work to make them fit properly and they still look fake, I won't bother. Oh and my car is a 2004 X5 3.0d |
