I just tried with INPA. Under communication systems, I do not see a BT module. I see a Telephone, but that does not give me the option to pair.
I'm starting to wonder if the module is bad. |
You live about 15 min from me. I'm 1 min from Pleasant Hill and Hwy29 intersection.
I do have INPA and GT1/DIS44 |
I cannot find the BT module with INPA. I removed the plastic tray in the trunk and this is what the box looks like.
There are also 2 cables nearby that were not connected to anything. Does this box look like the BT module? |
2 Attachment(s)
Pictures attached. Problem with the size in previous post.

this one looks like combo TCU BT box... there was an issue with these boxes in 2004 - the BMW said it was a BT unit and in reality there was no circuitry to support the claim... yours has a couple of FAKRA antenna connectors, so it might have the BT ability... take a look at the top braket above the Nav unit (if you had the nav unit), there might be a little square antenna with a fakra connector - if it is there, it is the BT antenna...
|
I do have the square antenna. It is connected to the TCU via the white connector on the bottom. You can see it in the first picture. Bottom white connector. I checked and it is connected well to the TCU.
I will contacting TMV in just a bit to see when I can meet with him. I'm running out of ideeas. |
i suspect, that since you get the "connect phone" message, there is a BT unit there... not paired... INPA was supposed to connect to the BT unit...
can you do a complete scan of all the modules/systems using INPA? and then, scroll through the report and see if you pick up on the BT - it could be hidden under a different name, since it is a combo box... the complete scan will attempt to connect to every module E53 could come with, and you will get "no response" for absent modules, like Japanese Nav, or whatnot... but you may find the telephone module, that is not coming up as regular BTmodule, but as something else... |
Ok. Will do the test in just a bit and relay the results. Do you know what else that module controls? I'm trying to figure out if it might be defective.

speech... press and hold the talking head button on the steering wheel until you hear a beep... then say HELP... let us know if anything happens...
|
That module, the Telematics Control Unit (TCU) controls E-call functionality in the car, as well as bluetooth connectivity. If your TCU is defective, it may not make the emergency call in the event of an airbag deployment.
If you suspect it's defective, try using EDIABAS to read DTC's out of it, or get it to a dealer for them to check it. |
