Floor Mats…..
Multiple people have been asking where to find floor mats for our X5’s now that winter is coming on strong. The suggestion I would offer is two sets of mats – Carpets and liners. Carpeted mats are available from multiple sources especially our site sponsors.

Floor liners are also available but here is a trick for those of you who have not researched these liners before. Weather Tech makes liners for the BMW aftermarket. Logos and all. If you order the set you get all three pieces cheaper than individual parts.

Order them today as here on the East Coast snow is forcasted this week. Most likely will be nothing more than rain ...but hell the commuters are already cueing up to abandon their cars on the DC Beltway today!

I have used the WeatherTech liners in multiple vehicles and recommend to one and all. I have them in my X5 and my rain vehicle a Dodge Minivan. Makes it easy to clean up after hauling car parts, rescue dogs and yard products stuff from Home Depot.

Don't forget the trunk Liners> I have the roll out floor on My 2005 X5 4.8is and the fit is great. Great for tailgate parties!

I may be relegating them to winter duty only and getting a set of OE carpet mats. I also have the pullout load floor and I actually prefer a carpeted mat in the trunk for all seasons, no pic on ECS but its 84 bucks to add in.

Good post and don't get me wrong I love the weathertechs, but at 76 bucks you can get front and rear OE all weather mats. However if your feet are extremely dirty in the winter, the Weathertechs will be much more protection as they cover more and have deeper channels. Nice recommendation.

I love the soft BMW all weather mats also. The only thing I did not want to happen is for the carpet around the mats to get wet during the salt weather.

Most of the country has winter. Here is the Wash DC area we get salt. If it looks like snow, VDOT and the local counties come out with the salt (brine water) trucks and start running around dumping the metal eating stuff. Last year nothing came out of our of the garage, except the minivan as they dumped so much salt in my area that it took a thunder storm to wash it away.:wow:
My idea of winter is a jacket, no snow blowers, no ice scrappers, etc.

BMW also sells another style "soft rubber" mat that has a slightly different design versus the ones they sell in the parts dept show room. If you order them from the parts counter (51 47 0 000 578/579 front/rear)...they have a "waffle" like design...and the front driver's mat comes with floor anchors...the type they hook down in to the floor pan with a 1/4 turn:

Spendy, but very nice, especially for summer use or milder climes, are cocomats.com. I wouldn't use them in that yankee slush, and have OEM black rubber like RB's in my new to me X5, but come next Spring, I'll order a set of cocos. Had them in our last fun weekend ride [Benz SLK 350]. Rubber backed, so the protect the carpet in most conditions, and very handsome mats.

I can attest to the liners being worth every penny! In the sloppy months they trap much more water than the standard rubber mats. They do scratch/wear over time though.

I do notice on my OEM all weather BMW mats I posted above that after 2 years of constant use, my wife's passenger side mat is quite "indented" and such from 2 years of getting in my X with high heels and is starting to show some wear marks. But at 46 bucks for the pair I might just get another front set (the rears are perfect, no one is ever in the backseat of the X anyway) and keep on truckin!

Ive seen the waffle pattern before, however ive never seen Rickys, they may not trap as much water but they look super nice!
Thats what a few taps on the side of the foot rail plastics for!.. Really dont like those coco mats... Look like a straight off the boat African or Persian cab driver, i can smell the incense from here ;)

I've used the BMW OE rubber mats in my e34/e38/& e39...all of them had different "designs" but basically retain the same amount of melted snow run-off. But most of all, are designed to fit every nuance of the floor pan.

I've never used the "liners" but they do seem interesting...my only concern is if they remain as pliable as the rubber mats...or if they harden up when the temps deep below freezing for long periods of time.

But back to the BMW rubber mats designs...again, they may differ in looks, but they do take melted snow run-off into consideration and build-in ways to keep most of the water within the mat...by either isolating run off in little wells (like the e53 waffle design & the e39's design), or into the ruts within the design (like my e38 & e34 mats herringbone pattern)...or have the ridges that help keep your heel and sole above the area that the snow is melting into (like Ricky's mats & the ones sold in the Parts Dept show room).

Usually the weakest area is around the accelerator pedal...but that can be contributed to shoe size & foot placement. :)
