Good luck finding a 5 mile runway to get an X to top speed. Just to get the last 5 mph out of it took over a mile!

hahaha i used the I-95 runway:rofl:

The longest non-military runway in the US is at Denver International, 3 miles long. NO chance of hitting top speed and getting stopped in that distance.

is the x5 sport ECU tuned differently than the base model? whats the difference? i thought only the suspension and cosmetics were different.. (im new to the x5 world, not even a month in my 04')

ECU is tuned differently even on the 4.4 sport vs 4.6/4.8is... normal ECU is tuned for economy, the sport removes the top speed limiter (not on earlier E53s), and the "is" is tuned for performance at the expense of economy... this is very brief, short rundown...

The 4.4 M62 X5s that did not leave the factory with V speed rated tires have a speed limiter that keep the top speed around 130 mph.

In 2003 BMW began installing V speed rated tires on the OE base wheel package, this allows for no speed limiter in the ECU coding, and real high speed runs for the M62 4.4s.

So my X should top out at 130 even though it's a sport?

What about the six bangers? Haven't really heard from that area. Are they tuned to 130 too?

When looking at the M62 4.4 vs 4.6is performance figures, the 4.6is tune resulted in a 6.4sec 0-60 (4.4 is 6.6sec) and 14.9 1/4 mile (4.4 is 15.0sec).

You have a post '03 sport pkg, BMW states 143 mph.

The I6 E53s are limited by aero-drag and top out around 125.

J.Belknap 12-19-2013 02:44 PM

I'd wager a stock 4.6 is limited by air around 152 mph, and the S3 is limited by air around 168 mph.
