The Fastest X5!

I seen someone post that while test driving there X, they exceeded the speed limit a little and hit 140. I've only hit 110 (not trying). I'm curious so post up your top speeds along with engine and tranny options.

'03 4.4 sport pkg, first yr of V speed rated tires being OE installed on the base sport pkg wheels (this allowed BMW to remove the speed limiter). BMW states 143mph top speed yet on the drive home from the dealer after purchase I got 147mph (1 am, open hwy without ANY vehicles in Orlando. FlL), Garmin GPS verified. Speedo was showing almost 155. My son recorded a GPS top speed of 136mph in his turbo MR2 (fastest his MR2 has ever been) prior to dropping off the X.

Speedo # are worthless for verifing top speed because of their approx 4% error.

Anyone recoding to remove the limiter needs to make sure to install V speed rated tires or higher. I run W rated tires on the X.

Having known the '03 4.4 sport pkg base OE tire was unlimited had me ONLY looking for those, or '02/'03 4.6is, when I looked at used Xs.

140 MPH (speedo reading, so i'd say about 130-135 MPH real), 2002 4.6iS - the car still had the guts to go... but i did not... lol... in other words, i chickened out when i felt that the road was not as straight that i thought it were and not as smooth as i hoped it were... it happened somewhere on the planet Earth - i am not going to incrimenate myself by pinpointing time and location... lol...

There are hundreds of private airports in the US and I'm sure Europe-Canada. When discussing top speeds I always do this on a private airport runways with permission as I'm sure all you have posted ;)

I have a published article about one of my bikes top speed all achieved on a private airport near me.

Good luck finding a 5 mile runway to get an X to top speed. Just to get the last 5 mph out of it took over a mile!
