I just spoke to StephenVA and he had some good advice.

Hopefully, this helps.

If my little bit of knowledge helps then pass it on to the next one who needs some assistance. Good luck and keep us in the loop. That is what the forum is about shared knowledge transfer.

My carrier broke the same area that they all do. You can see where the weak area is on this design and where all the wear areas are in the images below.

Oh, and don't forget to wax everything before installing!

Thanks for all your help, guys! I was able to get it to get the hex bolt to fit last night.

On the door handle carrier where the hex bolt fits in, there's a plastic piece. I was able to take off that piece and angle the hex bolt just enough to fit. I did have to use the old bolt though. When I used the new hex bolt at an angle, the new bolt didn't screw in all the way. It got really tight towards the end and there was a gap. Thanks for the tip, upallnight!

StephenVA,

I used the wax that I use to wax my motorcycle chain. I hope that works fine.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I wasn't able to clip in the white collar. Do you think this will be a big problem?

StephenVA 03-03-2014 10:06 AM

Want to follow up with this topic to make sure you were all completed and able to use the driver's door once again.
If not, By now you should know what happens when you don't use the white collar. Hopefully you were able to get the clip to snap in. Yes, it is tight so a little gentle persuasion is necessary.

If all complete mark your topic "Fixed!" So others can learn from your struggles and success.

I still wasn't able to get the white collar on but was able to nudge it in a wedge so it would stay in place. So far so good. How would I mark the topic as fixed?

Need to confirm your Year and engine size to be sure....Just checked looks like every year and engine used the same carrier.

51218243615
CARRIER, OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE, FRONT LEFT $126.45

51218243616
CARRIER, OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE,FRONT RIGHT $126.45

I would order a few extra door panel clips as they break. I would also recomend replacing the ring around the door lock push button. As all of them are by now cracked. a $5 part for $.50 worth of plastic. By hey, if you wanted a cheap car you would drive a Honda, Chevy, etc. Insert vehicle of choice here______.
#19- 51418408567 COVER, LOCKING BUTTON - SCHWARZ 2 $6.49
