when you driving down the road how is there hot air entering the intake? when your moving its only new/cold air in forward half of you engine bay if your sitting in traffic I agree with you but who idles around town? with the new setup the intake box is essentially not a hot piece of plastic anymore its a cone with no surrounding hot plastic I just wish I did this when I first bought the x5 |

remove top engine cover and the vacuum hose 1 bolt and some hose clamps to get the old one out -the mass airflow tube will take a little bit of patience to remove from the charge air pipe -remove the lower air duct reinstall the rubber isolator on-top of the new intake housing flange with the original bolt and 2 new bolts are in the kit for the other 2 flanges, couple of hose clamps and the new vacuum line and your done instructions are super easy to follow |

sadly, I have to sit a lot in stop and go traffic, so yeah the aftermarket air intakes are not as beneficial to me as the BMW designed intakes.
I had one on my Prelude 10+ years ago and loved the sound. I even bubble wrapped (in metal sheathing from home depot) the metal arm to avoid getting heated so much and therefore the air going through filter then metal tube into engine was cooler (I left a spot open where I could touch to feel the metal, and metal was always cold right after driving, but yes the metal would still heat up if car was sitting for a bit while idling) |

So you have an extra one that is not being used right now? I know about the "filter sock" pre-filter, not what I'm talking about though. My stage 1 AFE intake with the Pro Dry S filter only requires the cleaning spray, it does not take oil, the Pro 5R filter takes oil. I was just saying if you had a choice of either kit (as the 3.0 guys do) to get the Pro Dry S filter. |

Really? If so thats awesome! And does explain why they are more expensive than the Stage 1 3.0 intakes. I'd use the Grey dry filter if I were you I tend to shy away from oiled filters nowadays |
