If anyone is interested I can get pricing from my old shop for the intakes, its an authorized dealer for AFE products so chances are I can probably get us all the best prices of em.

so the only 2 differences between a stage 1 adn stage 2 kit are the stage 2 kit comes with both grey (non oiled) and blue (oiling needed) filters and a metal tube (with electrical port) to replace factory ribbed plastic? the cost difference is about $107 for a metal tube and extra filter (which people may never use)?
am I missing something?

I would just buy the Stage 1 with the ProDryS non oiled filter, you don't get any extra power gains for $107 extra and you can clean the Dry filter for a lifetime of use.

RB did you notice any difference in performance when installed? Good or bad!
I drive in stop and go traffic a bunch.
How is the sound when u punch it? Doesn't sound too "ricey" does it? I Looovvvvvvve how the 4.8iS exhaust sounds on my 4.4and not sure I wanna change the sound honestly if the age intake does make much diff

It's not much different, little more grunt from the engine, I don't notice any performance gain on a 3 ton naturally aspirated SAV but I like a serviceable and non oiled filter.

Go for it if you can get a deal on one, I wouldn't pay over $200 though. It compliments my exhaust nicely.

I've had two NA vehicles and 1 turbo vehicle and intakes on all 3. The only one I honestly felt seat of the pants gains and actually heard a hugely noticeable difference in sound was with my 08 GLI, once the intake was on the turbo whooshed like a mother! But I loved it back when I had it.

thanks RB. I will take your advice on only buying it if under $200 on sale somewhere, or a used one. For $337 I was hoping something other than "noise" would happen, but then again I knew it was a pipe dream. I love how these air intake companies make claims of HP and low end torque increases on NA engines... just not gonna happen.

Ricky Bobby 12-05-2014 06:48 PM

Not on a 3 ton truck with an NA motor. If this was a turbocharged truck yes you would likely feel some gains.

Most gains I've gotten on NA cars and trucks have been exhaust and a tune
