Bump back on the first page.

Hey miniz, thought I'd help you out.

I had an extensive conversation with Caesar at Lightwerkz yesterday and he just did an E39 retrofit, which used the same mounts as the pre-facelift E53 lights.

What you'll need to do is drill out the 4 holes for the screws holding the projector together, but he said that was basically it, it bolted right up.

I was going to go with EvoX-R's on my build but if I can make the FXR bolt in with minor modification I would like to give those a whirl. I can post a pic of what I'm talking about as well if you need.

"I hook up pin 86 and 85 in series with ballasts."

No you want to connect the coil in parallel to the wiring on the ballast. In other words across the + & - wires going to the ballast. If you put it in series you'll be trying to draw all the current needed by the ballast through the coil on the relay.

Didn't think it was that easy! I knew the lower 2 holes fit fine with the Hella bolt pattern, wasn't aware the top 2 did too. Looks like I'm going with FX-R's then if I can't fix my RS6 issues.

I see what you mean. All my other wiring is correct though, right?

Wired as shown should work. 30 in the "common" connection, 87 the "normally closed" and 87a the "normally open". When the coil is energized the the relay actuates and the contacts change over.

Never have shown anybody well lit pictures of these lights. Going to be pulling them out of the car today to start some work on them. First up will be foreground limiters as that should fix some hotspot issues by spacing my lens out more. Then I'll work on my cutoff rotation.

I need some opinions on what I should do with auxiliary lighting.
Should I keep 4 angel eyes? Should I make them white or orange?
Should I do the high beam angel eyes only? What color then?
Should I add demon eyes? What color and with what setup of angel eyes?

Questions beyond what brand/how to install falls into the realm of how YOU choose YOUR vehicle to look.

Ask a dozen different posters and you will get a dozen different answers.

First rule of modding is all about doing what looks right to you (like plaid wrapped wood trim ).

Nothing lamer then questioning the look of a vehicle and having the owner respond "someone ELSE told them it would look good".

Never understood the "take a poll" approach to vehicle alteration.

I would like opinions of what people think and whether or not something would look too out of place or too extreme.

For example, I did yellow tinted angel eyes for a bit but decided they looked bad. I had to open them up again, which was a pain. Just trying to avoid that issue again.

:iagree: That's why everyone's X5 here on the site pretty much look all the same. It cracks me up when a new member posts a hello thread without pics of his car, everybody begs him to post pics. Without fail it's a stock X5 with no mods, like thousands of others we've seen here before, if you've seen one you've seen 'em all...lol! My question to the OP is, when are you gonna put some 20" wheels on that thing!

Ricky Bobby 05-29-2014 12:46 PM

I prefer an oem+ look so I say doing 4 white angel eyes as stock looks will look good.

Fix your projector outputs first and foremost though
