Projectors are something you really want to spend extra time "getting right". They are rather delicate in the sense that, any flaw, misalignment or general lack of attention to detail can take a quality retro do a junker special. You'll thank us once you get them back in the vehicle and can enjoy them! :)

Take the time to get them perfect before you seal them up, did you get those LED rings I sent you a link for a few months back? |
Just made a new foreground limiter with thicker aluminum. Bent it towards to lens to soften the foreground cutoff.
I'm still stalling on which LED angel eyes to buy. I want to be cheap and use SMD angel eyes and hope the diffuser from the CCFL lights even out the hotspots. However, I'm a little wary and would rather go COB LED for the better outcome at the cost of price. I don't think I have any links from you RB. Care to send it again or just post it up in this thread? |

These will look stock looking with the diffuser. Nothing wrong with SMD LED, its reliable. For your housings you need 120mm and 140mm http://i.ebayimg.com/t/6000K-Xenon-W...7E%7E60_57.JPG |
Hmm...seems that all reliable LED rings are still in the $40 range. The cheap ones can be found under $20 all day, but they're either too bulky to fit in the holders or have a high rate of failure. Argh, so much for doing this on a budget. Kinda demotivating.
Still no motivation to do the second headlight yet. I need to make a jig first so I can level out the cutoff properly. Eventually I'll comb through the scrap stuff in the basement to come up with something. |
On the X5 I consider anything under $100 to be budget friendly. considering those rings look the business for 1/3 the price of Umnitza rings I consider them a great bargain, but then again I used to be in college once...

Progress = ugly jig and a milk crate. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/04/a9u2e2yd.jpg Good cutoff? From ~25 ft away. I'm going to open up my other light and try to fix the cutoff tonight. As long as I keep everything constant, I can make the cutoff level even if the jig isn't level. I'll use the same D2S capsule too since my Morimoto bulbs aren't that great. Other projector. Aimed a little high on the jig, but otherwise the cutoffis parallel with the tape. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk |
Nice work, from 25 feet that looks pretty good although I'd expect a bit sharper with a clear lens, I almost thought it was fresnel. The cutoffs and output look good as far as that goes though.
Are you going to keep using the Mori bulbs or get Philips? I'm thinking part of the output problems are due to the Mori bulbs. |
Could be my camera phone taking bad pictures. It isn't a razor sharp line, but it is well defined. Maybe since it isn't razor sharp, it has been kind to my eyes like what X5SND said a few pages back.
I do think it is the Morimoto bulbs causing output issues. In both pictures, the hotspot looks to be a little right of the slope using the same bulb. Oh well, build are an easy fix later on. I don't really know why I'm still tinkering with this car. :lmao: It has kinda turned into a spare car for the family and will have the best lights. Part of that makes me hesitant to spend more on it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk |
