Here are the codes:

5DD7 - DSC: EHC Ride-height control, ride heights invalid
Fault Codes
7 EHC: Drain Valve
18 EHC: Supply, high-pressure drain valve
8 EHC: High-pressure drain valve
81 EHC: Activity plausibility, rear left
64 EHC: Distortion plausibility

Deviation, ride level
Front left 51mm
Front right 45mm
Rear Left -88mm
Rear right 10mm

Pressure/temperature values
Accumulator pressure 8.25 bar
Compressor temperature 37F

So... I was able to "activate" both front air struts and fill the bags with air. Not a ton of air though. They feel spongy at best and still don't raise the front at all.

Your pressure is quite low. Maybe you need a rebuild and reset the whole system. Lots of codes there.

Hi Mowog67 (Jeff)

Hi Jeff
Yes - I too was helped greatly by this forum & thread.
When my suspension first started to play up I was a little freaked out.
The system does not worry me so much now as I have kind of got my head round it.

Firstly, I think your controller is OK

Your accumulator pressure is way way to low for the system to stay afloat.
For mine to stay stable it needs to be 11bar or above...
I would strongly suggest firstly buy a compressor ring kit from bagpipingandy on e-bay... have a chat with him on the phone - very knowledgeable guy on these compressor matters. Dont buy from other suppliers as the rings they sell are not to the correct spec - he has had these manufactured to the original spec with the original teflon type material.

When I replaced mine, the diagnostic clocked the compressor pressure at well over 15 bars at the accumulator... which probably means that the compressor itself was running around 17 bars ish?

You can read and erase codes with several diagnostic machines, read compressor pressure, see compressor temp & all of the other ride height bits that you mention and maybe even raise and lower axles... however without a complete reset & re calibration I don't think you will succeed in maintaining the ride height and get the dash warning to disappear for more than a few minutes.

BMW dealers (avoid silly money) and independent BMW specialists (cheap) can run a set-up from scratch on their kit if you are sure there are no leaks...... the program runs through a set up sequence - you cannot just do a bit of it - it has to run from one end to the other & finalise/record - erasing codes & setting ride height at each corner. Then recording in the controller. The heights may look dramatically different in mm on the diagnostic but if measured correct height from the bottom rim of wheel (good ol' tape measure) and set this is fine.
It does not rely on mm values being the same - it just does not like them changing!
If the recorded heights deviate more than 11mm from the values you originally set the system will shut down again as it will think that you have a leak (or stuck on compressor) so the set height calibration and recording is crucial...

I have a diagnostic that will read & erase codes (£70 on ebay) .... I use it for erroneous codes that occasionally appear.... however I cannot re calibrate the system (& record values in the controller) in terms of ride height.

My local independent BMW garage does the whole set-up in 45mins & charges me £40 for the complete program to be run from start to finish - I have only had to do this once - complete reset. All the mechanics sit in the boot while it pumps up and gets re calibrated.

I reckon your system will work!

Let us know how you get on eh!

^^:iagree: with malc and Slick, do the compressor rebuild kit as your pressure is low, its probably leaky seal, and clear error codes with DIS, then run a ride height calibration routine.

Well my turn. I keep getting error 122 in Inpa. Reservoir pressure rises, when lifting from reservoir.

Everything keeps working, I just get that susp inactive message flashing in my face. I can still raise and lower the car.

Also, this may be related, but occasionally my car deflates the front driver bag. Sometimes it's fine for a week, sometimes it deflates it every night. I cannot find a leak. I tried a million times, every height. Not sure what is going on now.

X5monsterBMW 04-02-2017 03:05 PM

Me too !

Hi Slick... wow - here we all are again LOL... how are you!
I wish I knew the answer to your code 122 - however I have met a guy here who really understands everything about these systems - I have messaged him re: this - lets see what comes back! :dunno:

Strange this thread should re-appear in my e-mail but only 48 hours ago I stripped down the compressor completely on my 4.8is

It was getting through one of Andy's piston rings about one every six months. So Andy offered me a new Cylinder head for the compressor (very reasonable price) so I grabbed it... Mine looked fine but I needed to eliminate cyl head problems etc...

However it was not without its comedy moments.
Removed compressor as have done before.
Dismantled to the point of changing piston ring - done this a few times - a doddle...

New to me ...
Unbolted 2 long bolts that hold head to black air chamber... large spring pushes them apart... however as they separated, out falls a circular perforated dish & small spring & little valve from one end with tiny little thin washer.... the large rusty spring falls out, then from the other end a plastic round thing (lives on a shaft) a flat round perforated plate, a piece of circular black gauze & here it is......... about a million little beads fall out from the other end, hit my work bench (utility room work surface like a mad explosion of M & M's ... lol) which thankfully was clean....... I did not know whether to laugh or cry! :wow:

Unfortunately where the beads exploded unexpectedly they went in every nook & cranny to include crank assy sitting nearby on the table... so once gathered most of the little balls had to air-line every last one out of the unit.... I mean they went everywhere! The large spring was badly rusty so but kit he sent had a new one.

The tiny valve in the top of the head (behind flimsy spring) looked a bit worn.... what does this do & do they ever need replacing? Anyone any ideas?

Anyway... reassembled & re fitted... eventually. On restart compressor kicked in immediately... but shut down after 20secs with a long list of fault codes... 5 or 6 there mentioning probs with high pressure valve & all sorts.... deleted these... it ran for another minute then a code 76. Cleared this one and clean bill of health from then on. Car level up/down control responds fast .. 13 bars pressure or so at the mo... comp seems to run much shorter time which can only be a positive eh!

And on it goes eh!
Malc

I'm good. The air suspension saga continues for you as well it seems.

My reservoir pressure is 10.75 bar. What and where is the reservoir?

My car has always had the sagging front corner issue, even BMW serviced that corner 3 times before I purchased it. Seems to work fine usually, inflates when I open the doors, if it sags. not sure where to open up next and take a look.

My error is also strange, it shows pressure rises when lifting from reservoir. Whatever that means.

Yea sux having all the marbles flying out. Reminds me of the time I took apart the rear sprocket on my bike. Holy shit. I cried. More so when I tried to "glue" them on with grease so that I can assemble. What a mess.

Hi me again

Hi folks... can you help...
I am down in FR Alps 650 miles from home!
Towing a 1700 kg caravan.
Had not used the car for 4 days.
Jumped in this morn and yellow 4x4 yellow warning triangle appeared in middle of dash!
Quickly followed by Self Level Warning.
I have code reader... SLS says code 0032... can anyone tell me what that one is. When I clear it it reappears instantly... possibly because of the 4x4 sign?
Do you think I am safe to tow? I have not got the kit to tell me why that warning is illuminated!
Can anyone advise?
PS car is level...
Best Malc

Thankfully, this failed on the last week of my factory warranty.
