If the vehicle is double-locked (locked with the remote key or by sticking the key manually in the exterior door lock cylinder)...you can't just press the central unlock button to open the vehicle. You have to press it, then pull twice on an interior door handle.
And this only works for BMWs that are 2000 MY-up. Before that...if the vehicle is double-locked...there's no way to open the door without another key or breaking a window and crawling in/out over the broken glass. The info below applies to the e38/e39/e53: http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...%20E38%201.jpg http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...%20E38%202.jpg http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...%20E38%203.jpg http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...%20E38%204.jpg https://imageshack.com/i/5ee53x5fzvremotekeyreceivjhttps://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/43...ekeyreceiv.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/59...cylinderpo.jpg |
how about going to dealership ,give VIN + proof of ownership and just get a valet key that should work shouldn`t it?
|
Ditto...but BMW has changed the name & part nbr...it's now called the "door & ignition" key (BMW part nbr 51217127047 10/2003- up build date or 51218236594 9/1999-10/2003).
You can also get a non remote spare key that cost about the same (approx $40 - $75 depending on dealer pricing). Overall buying a non remote key is usually cheaper than a repair bill for a broken window & other damaged trim trying to break into the vehicle. #2 is the D&I (valet key) & #3 is the non remote spare key: |

That was a private owner purchase & it came with only 1 key. The FIRST thing I purchased after driving it back home was to go straight to the dealership to order a spare key. I ordered the key on a Thursday afternoon, and had it by Monday of the next week. If I had ordered the key in the morning, it would have come in Saturday. But since it was ordered in the afternoon...I also had to deal with the no delivery on Sunday. The keys come from New Jersey (BMW NA head quarters)...not Germany. I've also order stuff from the Euro side of the database and that stuff has taken about a week to get here. |
Update:
I have pm`d Ucrew and another member for the info on how to get into the X5 without breaking any windows. I have also ordered a plastic valet key on *bay for only £5.99 roughly $10 U.S, I will post if this works or not once I receive it probably 2 days as it`s afternoon in Sunny Glasgow? here`s hoping? I Thank everyone for all you`re input it is very knowledgeable and truly appreciated !!! My best regards to everyone  Jaima |
