I have no confidence left for them. Not being able to find another case of somebody with eccentric shaft problems that wasn't the sensor doesn't help. There was no problems before, but he said the heads could warp when removing them to replace the valve stem seals. So anything that that's going wrong is being chalked up to 'I was told these things can warp'. I just can't understand how the heads are bolting down tight and evenly, but the eccentric shaft bore on the heads are warped.

He told me they could warp. But, I'm not understanding how the heads are fine but the eccentric shaft is warped when they're the same piece.

What they did was remove the camshaft (eccentric shaft) caps and not put them back EXACTLY as they were removed.
Each camshaft cap needs to be reinstalled in the exact position it was removed from. The camshaft caps should NOT even be flipped around on their own same positions. Let me repeat, even if you reinstall all the camshaft caps in thier correct original positions, it is possible to flip them around 180 degrees and this is NOT good. That could potentialy damage the camshaft cap, camshaft, and head. Here's a picture for example although it is an M62 motor. you can see the 10 camshaft caps in place. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../Lefthead1.jpg |
See, that's something that makes sense and that I understand being the problem. Now how do I force the dealer to understand?

The camshaft caps are numbered so... I would start by getting hi-resolution photos of all the caps as currently installed. The tappets (round pieces below each cam lobe) need to be installed in thier original positions as well. There are 16 per head. They are not numbered.
Also, I hope they used some sort of assembly lube (Lucas, etc) while rebuilding the heads. Can't just slam the cams and caps on the head dry. |
I'm getting an engine rebuilder to advise me on this and then see if there is a BMW Canada to tell if he finds something. Hoping I can tow it to his shop and he can inspect the work and heads. The shops I called today find all of this more than unbelievable. Really hope I'm not crazy and taking this too far. I do really appreciate the support and advice I've gotten from all of you.

Try to get in touch with BMW Canada first before you move the car. I think you will find it easier to get their help if the car is still at the dealer. In USA the experience has been that they will not cover or pay for any work done by an Indy and discount their opinions. The bigger car companies usually have regional/master mechanics available to consult on such issues.
If they won't help, then by all means take it someplace else. If you look in the photos of the head above, you can see the cam towers are numbered and the lettering is all facing the same way. Look for that on yours if it gets opened up ... |

You can see in the photo the engraving on caps E1, E2, and A2 clearly. The N62 will appear different but I hope that helps as a general example. I hope that OP finds resolution. |
