It could be only a coincidence but four-five months ago I purchased the iCarly software and did some modifications to my 2012 X5. A month later I went to the dealer for a change of oil. After a few hours of waiting they told me the battery must be changed. As long as it was free I said 'go ahead'. A couple of hours later they told me the FRM module was dead and that I have to wait a few days for a replacement. Again, it might be a coincidence but I remember using the iCarly software with the engine running and sometimes the engine was off while I changed some settings. The car had 48k miles at the time.

If the FRM was bad, you would notice. They probably botched the battery replacement and coding.

I thought about that too. From the distance, I watched the guy changing the battery and doing multiple trips between the driver seat and trunk. Later on another guy showed up to help the first one. Then is when I realized something must be wrong. I even told the service manager that nothing seemed to be wrong with the car before I came in and he said FRM modules could go out without a warning. At least they changed it for free, including the battery and of course I had a loaner for a few days.

Sounds like the FRM modules are fragile and flaky in general.

Seem to brick too easily overall. They just do not like to be coded or played with and/or maybe the SRAM modules are sensitive or problematic.
