Fender Removal ???

1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone, I'm planning on restoring my headlights and properly sealing them afterwards, but I'm really a bit OCD about it and really wanted to remove the headlights to do it properly. (I know I can tape off edges and still do it but I don't want to do it that way.)So from what I've searched it looks like there is a lot of work involved to remove the headlights. Looks like that option is out of the question for me. So I want to remove both fenders so I can have some extra room to work with. I noticed there seems to be dirt building up under the headlight between the fender where it sits. (See Picture, Sorry for jacking the pic of someone's E70 I'm just using it for reference.) I Also noticed that water tends to stay under there. Since I'm really picky about it, I said well since I can't remove the headlights, I can try the fenders. That will leave me with enough room to work freely. So how do I remove the fenders? :dunno: Google leaves me with nothing and I cant seem to find nothing here. Any help will be truly appreciated. Thanks.

Pretty sure you can just remove the wheel liner to gain access and pull them out like that after getting the bolts off on top.

Says I need to remove oil cooler from drivers side. Really don't feel like messing with that. If the fenders are easy enough to remove, them I'll do that, otherwise I'll just have to leave everything as is and tape off the adjacent areas.

Pretty sure my oil cooler wasn't removed when I had some work done at the body shop - I'd have to find my pics.

Do you have sport pkg w/fender flares?

No, no fender flares, no sports pkg. Read a few post via google search also mentioned removal of the oil cooler. If I remove the headlights and put them back will they be misaligned or crooked ?

Yeah you will basically have to align the housings back up to get your gaps even etc. tightening a couple bolts to hold it in place and doing that solo isn't going to be easy.

If your E70 is pre LCI you will have to remove the black plastic portion of your front bumper as its clipped into the fenders under the lights. Once you do that you'll gain access to anything on the lower section of your fenders but I know for sure there's bolts (think 3) going up/down along your door seam/hinges area (so you need to open the doors) plus the ones that run along the top of the fenders in the engine bay.

I'd just tape everything up and leave it alone. If you have a compressor and an air hose next time you wash the car get it really wet in there and compress air what dirt you can get out.

If I remove the fender, do I have to remove the light ? I dont mind removing the front bumper to get to the fenders. As Long as I dont move the headlights im ok in doing that. I dont want to mess with the alingement of the headlights. So if I could remove the fenders without messing with the lights, im all for it. So the big question is, do the fenders come off without messing with the headlight? Will they slide off after I remove all of the bolts ?

From my understanding to get the headlights out the suggested way from he factory is to remove the side skirt them bumper then fender.
So to just remove the fender your Doing 3 of the 4 steps to remove the headlight. The labor intensive part of getting the headlight out IS removing the fender.

Yeah seems like that is the case. I decided to do it with the lights on, as if I had another option lol. The headlight's aren't really that bad, but the clear is starting to fail. Before that happen's, I want to get them back to new. I got my sandpaper ready, compound, machine polish, DA buffer, and a can of UV resistance gloss clear to seal them. Going to to post some pictures after I finish. Thanks everybody for all of the reply's.
