Is this something I should look into for my wife's "new" 2010 x35d? I'm going to go to BMW and do a VIN lookup just to check for open issues... I know the airbags have yet to be done. :(

Edit: Only the 2 airbags are open on BMW's website. Guess I can at least not worry about the shaft...

The next shipment of shafts was likely fine, and they have fairly accurately isolated when those parts entered the production line.

I don't work for BMW, but I work in manufacturing.

I believe you - my problem is that originally it was restricted to certain manufacture dates - now those dates have been expanded - and I believe actually some of the F15 production affected as well now -

She is a May 2013 build and the cutoff is April 2013 - really? They were only produced until June, I find it hard to believe they fixed the issue in May since they weren't even aware of it then -

Im a June 13 build...they corrected the part for the last 2 months of E70 production? Doubt it.

It wasn't an ongoing issue. It was a bad batch of parts. That's why they can say that only certain production is affected.

If it was a component issue throughout the run of the e70, then you would see the recall affecting all production dates, or at least all models with the 8 speed, since I assume that changed the part number for the driveshafts.

Just got my recall letter and "Remedy unavailable at this time".

Again, if the recall wasn't recently expanded to encompass more dates, I'd believe you on the "bad batch of parts" -

I just looked up my VIN via BMW Recall site and my 2011 35d does not have the driveshaft recall? (12.13.2010 production)

I emailed SA at BMW Northwest. He said my "remedy UNavailable" text is due to out of stock. Said BMW will send letter when one becomes available. That made no sense as items in stock don't become available instantly everywhere.

I just had my driveshaft recall completed yesterday at BMW Seattle. Mine is a 2012 35d.
I got an X3 as a loaner car and the steering was super light (electric) and it was crap.....really horrible.

Maybe I need to wait for the recall site to update or something because NHTSA says "Nov 22, 2010-April 23, 2013" fall inside the recall. Mine is 12.13.2010 so it should be in there as well. I did have to go through warranty validation process because previous owner neglected to do it. Hopefully my vin comes up in the recall as well.
