Tire Size Sanity Check

A question for all my esteemed colleagues in this forum. I am getting ready to purchase a set of tires for my e70 3.0si, and I thought I would have some fun. I live in Colorado and do a lot of mountain driving, so I thought I would go with a set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratecs (265/60r18). Currently I am running 255/55r18s on stock wheels. All my research here and elsewhere indicates the 265 combination should fit. Before I pull the trigger and drop $1k+ on new shoes, can anyone here convince me that combination won't work?

BTW, I am investigating purchasing a set 15mm wheel spacers just encase my top front ball joints becomes a problem.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I think this guy did just that

Lifted E70 X5 with Oversized Tires

I run the DuraTracs in that exact same size on my 2011 35d with no issues. Amazing tires. Fills the wheel well and looks better too. PM me with your cell # & I'll text you a picture.

Wait, what?!? How can it look better than a slammed ride on some 22s with 25 profiles??? IMPOSSIBLE!

Oh, whats that you say? You dont like your meaty and capable X5 sitting on 7 inch Lucite stripper heels, with dainty rubber strips on the ground?

:iagree:

Whooo bad visual. To use the same analogy, strippers out here in Colorado wear boots, which does not detract at all from their looks or functionality. :)

I have 22's with 40 profile. Yes it does handle like a drunk pig why do you ask?

It'll look like crap, ride like a Towncar and handle like anything made by GM but to each his own.

I'm in denver and run the M wheels in the summer and the factory 18's in the winter with snow/ice tires (no studs). 255/55/18. Never had an issue. I've looked into lifts etc. but the bottom line is an X5 is pretty low no matter what you do. It's very capable off-road and does incredible until ground clearance becomes an issue. Adding 1" of tire size only lifts you up .5" and that just not enough to matter. I've plowed through 12" of fresh on Vail pass with the snow tires and it's amazing. For the best of both worlds you need two sets of wheels/tires.

Yup, except mine looks great. I got a white X5 with black trim, black grill, windows so totally tinted I don't even know if my rearview mirror dims and black finish Giovana's.
I dont like the way the truck drives but it looks great sitting still. :)
