FRM. Mine got toasted due to a voltage excursion. Eventually, I was reimbursed under the extended warranty. First step is definitely charge the battery fully, though.

No warranty here so I'll be eating this one.

Far as the battery goes, do I register it then recharge, or recharge then register?

The battery was replaced a couple years back under warranty so it's not too terribly old.

No registration unless replaced. Charge from the b+ terminal under the hood.

It was a 10yr/120k mile extended manufacturer's warranty on the FRM. I only had about 75k miles on a three year old vehicle. You're out on age but BMW has done goodwill repairs if you're close on mileage or age. Sometimes they pay for the part and half the labor or half the part some labor, etc. The problem is finding a service advisor who'll work for you. If you have no previous relationship, it's not likely to happen.

The BimmerGeeks DCan cable arrived today, here's what I couldn't clear:

VGSG [VGSA70] | 54C6: Oil wear (research shows this is differential oil, which is weird but anyway)

KLIMA [IHKA70] | E71F- No message, (dim,0x202) Receiver integrated automatic heating/ a/c system, transmitter footwell module

STVR/TEBF| [TRSVC70] CAAA- (vehicle inclination, 0x306) error, receiver TRSVC, transmitter FRM

KOMBI [KOMB70] | A3B0: No message (dim, 0x202), receiver instrument panel, transmitter footwell module

KOMBI [KOMB70] | A3B4: No message (lamp condition, 0x21A), receiver instrument panel, transmitter FRM

KOMBI [KOMB70] | A3C1: No message, receiver instrument panel, transmitter footwell

FBI [CECALLR] | AA1C: Emergency speaker: open circuit

ZBE [ZBE_60_2] | E097: Message (dimming 0x202) faulty, receiver CON, transmitter FRM/KOMB/LM

GWS [GWS70] | E097: Messgae (dim, 0x202) faulty, receiver GWS, transmitter FRM

AHM [AHM_70] || E559: No message (lamp status, 0x21A) receiver AHM, transmitter FRM/LM

CID [CIDR_70] | E5D8: Message (dim, 0x202) incorrect, receiver CID, transmitter FRM

KLIMA [FKA_70] | E75E: No message, (dim 0x202), receiver automatic rear a/c system, transmitter footwell module

I see FRM recurring in the codes above so I presume the Footwell Module is fried.

What I'm still seeing inside the car:

Despite what one of the codes indicates the radio works as the does front and rear a/c. Lighting is an issue. No power door locks. No interior lights, no blinkers, no hazards, the car is telling there's a lighting issue which I already know.

Also here's a list of issues I think stem from the same root cause: Driver's side control cluster on the door panel has no power. I have no control of the front windows on drivers or passenger side, no side mirror control either. Also car thinks the driver's door is open. I assume this is due to the door switch sharing a power source with everything else in the door.

I've been pulling the car in the garage due to recent rain but I gotta figure this out and get her fixed soon.

I wouldnt worry about the battery until AFTER you replace the FRM (or send it out to be fixed)... just too many current draws that may be causing odd drains.

Good point. I discovered the "ECU Pros" up in PA who do module testing/repair. Any other operation in/near the southeast that does this service also?

They are the guys I saw when I posted the $$ estimates...no experience with them, nor anyone else.

If you can get ista-p which programs modules, you might be able to recover the FRM. I had a success with a friend's e70. Supposedly the old software has a bug that messes up the initialization at first start (like after a full drain).

I used a generic eBay k+dcan USB cable with my laptop.
Battery charger while updating software is essential. If it has 2 settings, like low and high, use the high setting because these BMWs love to guzzle electricity when the engine is off.

I recall some youtubes that might show recoveries. My recollection is that it will internally latch during low voltage situations... corrupted flash in the eprom
