Situation report- when you guys chimed in I already made the executive decision to just send the FRM to the ECU Pros team. Paid the $99 testing fee and shipped it to PA. Very fast turnaround time as they had it tested/diagnosed same day they received it. Apparently it failed cause they requested payment for the remaining $151 for a total of $250 to move forward with the repair. After payment they finished the repair and shipped back. FedEx was very efficient getting it from PA to SC in 1 day, arriving to me yesterday. I installed it yesterday evening but per their instructions a full battery charge is recommended before cranking the car. Put the battery charger on her overnight and woke up early this morn to try and get her up and running before leaving on a little road trip. Much to my satisfaction everything worked just fine!

Only fault I still can't clear is the Oil Wear one on the X Drive system. That fault very well could have been around before I started going down this route. Either way, I'd like to resolve it. Any recommendations from the crowd on that?

Electrical issues following jump start
 

I have the same ring clear fault from the TC. Thought I read once about a sensor butt no luck finding. Of course I changed the TC oil right after I bought the car.

Oddly enough, this whole FRM reset thingy also cleared the lingering passenger airbag fault that arose where I disconnected a harness in the dash while installing aftermarket sound. So that's a nice unexpected resolution.

huh, Go figure. I had assumed once the flag was set in the airbag controller, you needed to access that with a special SRS tool....

I had no clue how to resolve it, hence it sticking around long as it did. I read one thread where you can place a resistor in line with something related with the system at the battery and it'll make the fault go away. I was confident it wasn't an actual hardware failure since it started after I knowingly disconnected the plug, only to realize later that I probably shouldn't have done that.

Don't care anymore, it's fixed. I'm just happy I got my ride back.

Years ago I had pulled the seats out of E39M5 to do some wiring under the carpet/padding. Carefully pulling the battery negative terminal to avoid tripping an SRS fault (which would happen when the connector to the side bolster airbag was disconnected- it is powered/monitored ALL the time)


So a day later I am putting it back and realize it would be way easier to move the seat motor position- so, like a moron, I attach the connector, pop the terminal on- move the seat. The dumbly look at the SRS error light up.


Idiota.


SRS 'tools' are really cheap, they are universal. (Unlike oddball BMW codes). But most cheap/generic code readers and other tools will not also do SRS stuff.


FWIW.

Foxwell nt510 will reset srs and also scan and command most e70 modules. Eg read the rpm and run the water pump. Oops D has mechanical pump but you get the idea.

Bimmercode and bimmerlink are fantastic tools as well and reasonably priced
