The BMW 3.0 diesel is much smoother than the TD5, no argument at all. I haven't driven recent BMW diesel saloons, but I have been a passenger. I have driven many recent diesels in the UK and Europe, from other European manufacturers. I think that most of them are very impressive, for diesels. IMO, and it is only my opinion, BMW diesels are not as smooth as BMW petrol engines. All of the reports say things like "very smooth....for a diesel." I agree.

Always a good debate, Fernando.

Jeff

Now,who brought out the LR Disco?
This thread refers to Bmw 3.0D,if you hadnt made the incorrect statement that you had a 2.5 version of this engine,I wouldnt even had bothered to join the debate!
I hate to be repetitive but you did say that you had an LR Disco with a Bmw 2.5 diesel engine that was about as refined as your bro´s Fergunson Tractor, when in fact you didnt know that the engine in your LR was a TD5 LR own design and built engine, and therefore not a 2.5 version of the engine in the X5 3.0d as you stated in your post#15.
I can go on and remind you that on your post#21 you also say "the 2.5 ltr BMW diesel engine is crap".Again, another incorrect statement, since not only is it not a Bmw engine but it is a somewhat refined engine which you go on to admit later and contradict your own statement.

But this isnt about winning or loosing, its about providing correct information so that ALL MEMBERS are not misinformed with the wrong facts.
If I say something thats is WRONG then I will thank the person that corrects me for I will be wiser. You should do the same.

I JUST DIDNT WANT ALL OUR USA MEMBERS TO GET THE WRONG FACTS ABOUT THE 3.0D THAT YOU WERE PROVIDING THEM WITH!With this I rest my case!

To get back on topic!I hope Bmw release the X5 with the 535D engine, recently acclaimed as one of the top 3 engines! I really hope that Bmw do sell the Diesel in the US.Its not fair on you guys that us over the ocean get such a great engine all to ourselves.

right then. Talking about the Current range of Discoveries why are we talking about the Discovery It's a Ford enough said there - it's crap in every sense of the word - engine. interior, exterior. It's all pants.

Now Diesel Engines. Frankly I would never have our Main Motor in anything other than a diesel. Most petrol engines just lack the torque to tow and any petrol engine that can are gas guzzlers meaning you got to plan your trip aroud petrol stations:rofl:  We are fotunate that we have the BMW diesel to drive because:

They are torque'e low down just as smooth as petrol engines

At the boat dock today, I saw a dealer with a bunch of BMW's and Landy's. So I ask the salesman, any diesel for the X5? No, BMW is going to wait until the price of diesel goes down!! Maybe in a couple of years.

Speaking of gas mileage, I checked out a 37 foot boat with twin 496 mags, 850 hp! Mileage about .75 to the gallon on a good day. Maybe it could be rigged with a sail!
