X5 US Diesel

I was talking with the dealer guy today who confirmed their will be a diesel in the US Lineup according to a BMW Order memo, look for it in dec 2006-march 2007 AND will not be sold in new york or cali for emissions reasons, i'm so excited, even thou I live in cali I'll just address it to our house in AZ *grin*

What will the MPG (us) be?

Thanks

I have no idea, he couldn't even tell me the engine displacement

It may be of use to know that the current X5 3.0D can give up to 35mpg on freeway and about 27 around town. Engine size is 2996cm3 with similar torque to the 4.8, but being a diesel runs out of revs earlier of course. 218bhp according to the book and under 9 secs 0-62mph.

These are the figures I get from my 2005 3.0D Sport Auto. The next generation engines may be even more efficient as Europe also tightens the emissions regulations further to require EU 5 performance. The current version is EU 3.

Is that based upon us gallons or imperial gallons? If it's US sign me up for one!!

Thanks

Are you sure? How will the X5 meet US emissions? Will it have a EGR,CAT and special muffler?

I hope this is true as our lease is up in Dec.

Yes but the MPG they get and look they get from you as they rip past you pulling a trailer is PRICELESS:rofl:

Diesels have some advantages. 850km on a tank around town, and 1300km intercity is pretty groovy.

Also, towing a 30 ft caravan sized race car transport trailer I only use 15L/100km. This was on country roads and not highway.

Moving to a diesel SAV has been a bit of a change for me forced by the need to tow a Formula 3 car around the east coast of Australia. I normally drive pretty quick turbo cars and surprisingly found the X5 with sports pack suspension enough of a drivers car to still get my jollies on the road.

Chris.

Based on Imperial Gallons.

European spec current E53's also have CATs fitted. We've had to have them for a number of years whether petrol or diesel. Can't tell you about the EGR's though.

We just don't get luvvly tailpipes

Rick
