Don't think that answers X5JDX's question. The press release in the UK says that there will be a sport model in late 2007, as there is now in the UK (where it is available with each different engine). We also don't know what the spec difference will be until more detailed information is available. Some of the confusion comes from there not being a sport model in North America, as there is in the UK.

The future (is) model, which is a replacement for the E53 4.8, is a whole different subject.

oh, i see what you mean. i thought you meant 'sport package', like previous years, with tighter suspension, white corner lights, etc.

but you are right, seems like a more powerful engine like previous 4.8is, should be offered at some point... but probably going to be BIG bucks.

what 'dynamic' package are you referring to?

As has been mentioned, different markets are creating some confusion. I'm certainly confused about a lot of if's, what's and maybes and I'm sure if BMW are looking in they will be enjoying all the speculation. Too much market differentiation if you ask me.

The dynamic pack, I believe, will be offered in the UK as an option for first deliveries (April) and will include all the usual "Sport" goodies, shadow line, anthracite headlining 19" wheels (I pressume) tighter suspension etc. Now, if this delivers all this then what will an official production line "Sport" model offer that the dynamic pack doesn't? Again, this is all based on assumptions and hear say so I'm just fishing for some info to get ahead of the game. Hopefully the dealers will be able to release some real info specific to the UK market soon.

does anyone know if the new X5 is getting the turbo I6 engine in the 335i and if the new 4.8i is the same engine as the 4.8is? thanks

Man...I just hate Chris Bangle designs......way too many different elements in each panel. I really dont like the crease along the door handle line.

just way too much going on to my eye.

The new 4.8i is the detuned engine from 4.8is. E53 4.8is has 355hp and E70 4.8i has 350 hp. The bi-turbo I6 may come sometime later.

How much of the performance will be affected by the drop of 5 hp? Any idea?

BMW is saying the 4.8i will provide:

355BHP, 0-60 in 6.5s, Top speed 150 (with sports pack), 22.6mpg

If I remember correctly, the 4.8is will go from 0-60 in 6.1s. So does it mean that a 5 hp drop will slow the car down for 0.4s? It is difficult to imagine how 5 hp can have such a big effect on the accelaration.

0-60 for 4.8is published figure by BMW is 5.9 sec.
