Not the 6FL option with USB. This is factory order ONLY

where can I get the 6fl that charges the iphone/itouch?

My 2008 E70 has the 6FL option. When I connected my second generation 15 GB iPod to it, it would only play, if I pressed play on the iPod before plugging the connector in. Then, I had no menus on the iDrive screen and the iPod locked after playing only one song. I did double-check to make sure that the USB connector was plugged in. Is there a generic problem with older iPods like mine that anyone has heard of, or do I have a problem with my vehicle or cable? I suppose it might be time anyway to upgrade to a new 80 GB iPod classic.

According to BMW NA, only Generation 4 iPods or higher are compatible. See following link. (go through the options to select 2007 X5)

It looks like its time for an iPod upgrade.

I did not say that. I was responding to the previous poster's specific question. He has an iPod that is from 2002-2003 (Generation 2) and has older technology. The iPod Touch is the newest technology and thus I suspect it will work perfectly with iDrive.

The ipods gen 3 and before plugged into the firewire port on the computer. Gen 4 and later use the USB port. The proprietary connector on the bottom of the ipod remained the same. I suspect that since BMW uses a USB port, it won't work with any ipod designed to use with a firewire port.

I believe this is true. There's a lot of good reasons to upgrade a 2G iPod, anyway! I gave mine away to my daughter who's in college at least 2 years ago!
